WWDC Fast Approaching, What To Expect?

by Karthik on June 4, 2008 · 23 comments

June 9th, the day when Apple’s annual developer event WWDC will kick start. During the four day event Apple will be making quite a few announcements. There are some we know for sure, but some that still remain a point of speculation.

Every passing day the rumors continue to swirl, and every day is a new day in the Apple land. Well here are my predictions for this years WWDC with my guess as to what chances are there it might be true..

Here they are :

  • 3G iPhone (99.99% Sure we’ll see Steve Jobs Unveil this on June 9th)
  • 3G iPhone available from Apple Stores on June 9th (50%)
  • App Store (50% Sure)
  • Mac OSX 10.6 (20% Chances)
  • Redesigned Macbooks and Macbook Pros (75% Chance)

Well what else do you expect to see this WWDC? Let us know in the comments..

The iPhone is the sure to be the center of attraction. Rumors say that the new iPhone is expected to have support for GPS technology. News.com has a good point , ‘the combination of GPS and faster networking speeds should allow for a whole range of location-aware applications to proliferate on the iPhone, as they have on other competing phones.

I’ll be all over Apple Centric blogs on June 9th trying to the get the latest information as WWDC progresses. June 9th to 13th are going to interesting days.

WWDC is scheduled to start 10:00 A.M. (PST).. Can’t wait any longer to see the latest Apple goodies. Bring ‘em on Apple..

See more from: iOS

My bet is that we are going to see more of Apple’s touch screen technology; perhaps a tablet based Mac Book? I also think that we may see Apple’s take at the Eee PC. One other thing that crossed my mind was that we may not see a 3G iPhone, but a true Apple Smartphone running Mac OSX. Just some thoughts :)

I suppose Engadget is going to be a Apple exclusive website then?

FireFox June 5, 2008 at 3:43 am

Euhm whoops, I thought I was on Engadget. . Comment not supposed to be here.

@Mike, A Tablet based Macbook would be too cool, but I believe its too early in the game for such a product I believe.

@Firefox, Probably DailyApps will also have a pretty good coverage of the WWDC ’08..

Redesigned Macbooks and Macbook Pros (75% Chance)

I don’t agree on the 75% chance you’re giving them. Too much. They have been updated just a while ago. Not gonna happen.

The Macbooks will be updated around September. I don’t know about the Pro’s. So say the rumor sites.

@Firefox, that was funny.

Karthik Kastury June 5, 2008 at 9:40 am

@Lucky, The Macbook pro’s have maintained their design form since a very long time.. So I’d expect them to have a major redesign this WWDC in the lines of Macbook AIR..

About the Macbooks, expect Apple to dump plastic in favor of Aluminum.

Lucky June 5, 2008 at 10:10 am

I totally agree with what you’re saying. I’ve been saving money for a Macbook, but I am waiting for the redesign. I never liked the MacBook Pro keyboard.

I just don’t believe it happening next week. Macbook Guide

It’s been just 90 days since they were updated. The average is 190 days.

I’d love it to happen now, but I have to be realistic.

Karthik Kastury June 5, 2008 at 11:00 am

@Lucky, yes you have got your observations spot on. But the designs are a bit outdated at the moment, and WWDC is the best time to release to show the new ones.

Expect Steve Jobs to line up quite a few surprises for all of us..

FireFox June 5, 2008 at 4:03 pm

I liked the older WWDC presentations more. All things really where a suprise. The effect of One more Thing is not the same it used to be.

Karthik Kastury June 5, 2008 at 7:25 pm

@Firefox, I can’t agree more with you on this. Over the years the surprises have come down, because of the kind of interest in Apple products.

Where else will you find bloggers/journalists trying as hard as possible to find out what the next Apple product will be?

With all this in place, no surprise is a big surprise :(

FireFox June 6, 2008 at 3:40 am

true Karthik. The only suprise would be if they announced to make there own car. We can expect an apple interface for BMW though. (I’ll be laughing when anything appears about a car).

V1 June 7, 2008 at 7:08 pm

I so do NOT hope there will be a new macbook…. I just orderd a new macbook.. and it will be delivered in 4 days -_-

Karthik Kastury June 7, 2008 at 8:09 pm

@V1, thats an awfully bad time to order an Apple gadget with a major event like WWDC around the corner..

Lucky June 7, 2008 at 11:41 pm

@V1, relax you can replace it for free if anything is announced.

V1 June 8, 2008 at 12:53 am

Iknow, but i needed it for my work.. But i guess I found this out the hard way..

True, and thanks god for that. Thanks god my hackintosh will probly work for a few more weeks, but still -_-’ I’m just crossing my fingers for nooo update.

FireFox June 9, 2008 at 1:51 am

My other guess is that Steve will announce a new high ranking person+announce that he will ‘roll’ out

Mike Ryan June 10, 2008 at 12:00 am

Karthik, I hope you know that MacRumors is covering the whole thing live, updating minute by minute. Where are your round ups :P

FireFox June 10, 2008 at 2:54 am

To bad there wasn’t any coverage or a link to coverage. I had to read all about it on Engadget..

V1 June 10, 2008 at 3:04 am

woohoo, Iphone for us dutchy’s finally. And no news on mac books :p

Karthik Kastury June 10, 2008 at 6:42 am

@Firefox, Mike, I was following the keynote live too via UStream and overall I’m quite disappointed with the keynote..

More in the coming post.. :) Cheers!!

Lucky June 10, 2008 at 9:08 am

Told ya :)

I’m actually quite pleased with the keynote! It was great because I was realistic and I didn’t listen to all the rumors.

You should try that.

FireFox June 10, 2008 at 2:14 pm

I wasn’t suprised at all. The only thing that made me say :”wow” was the price cut. That is the best thing Apple could do. No one can beat that price

Karthik Kastury June 10, 2008 at 2:22 pm

@Firefox, yeah really the price is real cheap. But Apple is playing smart here. By locking you into a contract over a two year period, you end up paying more..
