If you are looking for Dropbox invites just leave a comment on this post with your email id and I will send you an invite. Please spread the word by digging the story here

We have all been waiting for GDrive to launch for years now. But it looks like GDrive is all set to become vaporware with the launch of the public beta of Dropbox today. Luckily I managed to get an invite and I’ve been playing around with Dropbox for the past hour and I am completely bowled over by its simplicity and functionality.

Only yesterday I wrote about Foldershare, but Dropbox beats Foldershare in all aspects. Every other online storage solution has had its own limitations. Dropbox gives them a hard punch and comes out on top.

Here are a few things that made me impressed :

Dropbox is super fast. Uploads and Sync are done in a snap.

The Interface is simple and easy to use and it is tightly integrated into your Operating System. I’m currently running Dropbox on my Hackintosh and Windows Vista PC and it works like a charm.

Sync is the main feature. You can sync files between multiple computers and share stuff between different users.

Everything you store in Dropbox is stored in an online account and the storage limit is capped to a maximum of 5GB.

In case you accidentally edit a file you can always revert back to previous version. Think SVN for home users!

I plan to buy a premium account whenever that is available because I’m just in love with Dropbox at the moment. I suggest you watch the screencast to see how powerful Dropbox really is.

I have invites available, so if you want to try out Dropbox leave a comment in this post and spread the word.

I’m so sorry I forgot to Link up to Tony. Kudos to him for finding this back door to get Dropbox invites..

Update : Sorry guys the invites are now over. I just received this email from Drew Houston the CEO of Dropbox :

hey guys,

first, thanks for the enthusiasm and inviting people we really
appreciate it.

we will be tightening the reins though in an hour or two and putting a 5
person limit on invites — just wanted to let you know so that we didn’t
pull the rug out from under you and so that you can update blog posts,
etc. the invites you’ve already given out won’t be affected.

we will be letting in more people as soon as we can

cheers,

drew

Isn’t that sad, this was fun while it lasted. I’ve sent out more than 400 invites and I’m happy that I have been able to get invites for so many people. Well its just that dailyApps gave out just as many invites as Techcrunch and GigaOm put together gave. So dailyApps trumps the big guys right? I’ve closed the comments on this post, which means no more invites. Please subscribe to the RSS Feed to receive a lot more in the future.

Microsoft has just released the beta of FolderShare. The idea behind FolderShare is pretty simple and its main purpose is to Keep files in sync across your computers, Share folders with friends, Access your files from any computer. FolderShare does not store data remotely so to be able to Sync you should have a broadband connection which isn’t hard to come by these days.

Microsoft released a fresh beta of FolderShare with an interface that is heavily borrowed from Skydrive. With all the bells and whistles and Windows Live branding FolderShare seems to be ready for primetime.

Here are a few screenshots of FolderShare in action :

FolderShare is useful software specially if you work over many computers. I know a few people who actually use FolderShare regularly, and even I’m planning to use it more often. The other good thing FolderShare is that it is the only program that can sync between different platforms, yeah Windows and Mac OSX.

Give FolderShare a try and drop in your comments on it.

When it comes to Online Office tools, Google Docs is the most popular solution right now. With a host of other tools in Google Apps, Google Docs makes a perfect choice if you are looking to take your Office Online. But there is one problem, and that has to be the inability to sync your documents between your personal computer and Google Docs. Well Thanks to DocSyncer even this problem can be solved…

DocSyncer will at first upload all your documents to your personal Google Docs account and then keep track of the documents for any changes that are made to them. It will automatically synchronize the changes. If you add or save new documents it will be automatically uploaded to your Google Docs account.

Here are some screenshots of DocSyncer in action :

Well, DocSyncer looks like a worthy addon to the Google Ecosystem. I personally don’t use Google Docs, because it is kinda difficult to synchronize between my PC and Google Docs. I am yet to receive my beta invite, and I hope DocSyncer can merge this gap between me and Google Docs.

If you are looking for an invite head over to the DocSyncer Homepage.

Well Microsoft has finally come up with a product that potentially looks like a competitor to Google Gears that was launched earlier this year. Dubbed as Microsoft Sync Framework it will help developers take their web services and Databases offline to work in an environment without being connected to the internet. The Framework will offer P2P synchronization of any file type, including contacts, music, videos, images and settings, and provides built-in support for synchronizing relational databases, NTFS/FAT file systems an RSS feeds.

According to Microsoft,

“The advantage of a synchronization-based solution is that users are no longer required to have a constant network connection to access their information. Since their data is stored locally they are given constant access to their data while offloading processing requirements from the central database. Furthermore, the user is no longer limited by the network speed and can now access the data at the speed of the device. “

Well Microsoft has had a late entry into this field, because Google Gears is picking up steam pretty fast and a lot of popular web services are taking their applications offline. Well Microsoft has a pretty hard task ahead, lets see how they tackle it.

If you are a developer looking to develop apps for Offline Access then you might want to download Microsoft Sync Framework.
