Leopard - Tips and Tricks

Well the hackers are at it again, this time undoing the User Interface mess that Apple created with OS X Leopard. If you are one of the old time Mac Users, I am sure you have gotten used to an Opaque Finder, A Dock that is simple and has Triangular icons.. Well with Leopard Apple has removed all this and given us something that is flashy.. Well here are some tips that will restore your Dock and Finder to a state that you will love it even more.

Tip 1 : Get Rid of the 3D Dock

Well if you don’t like the 3D Dock and you want to get rid of it altogether then Open Terminal.app and execute the following commands,

defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES; killall Dock

This will get you the standard Dock that you have got used to. Well here is a screenshot of the dock that you will get after this hack.

Are you a Java Developer? Then Don’t Use Leopard!

Mac OSX Leopard has definitely been one of the best OS launches we have seen in years, but surely it didn’t come without its share of problems. Leopard users have had one major problem of Blue Screens popping out for some users and now the Java developers are having troubles getting Java to work with Apple’s latest OS.

Following the release of Leopard on Friday the 26th of October, early users of Leopard complained of problems with Java on the system. The problem apparently is with the code that’s been written in Java 1.6 (also known as Java 6) not executing. The problem behind it is because Java Virtual Machine which interprets the Java code and executes it, is of a lower version i.e. Version 1.4. Java 1.6 was officially released in December 2006, but Leopard reportedly supports only Java 1.4 due to Apple’s insistence on developing the JVM themselves, rather than allow Sun to do it.
