If this is what you have been waiting to read ever since the day iPhone launched, then today is your day. MobileScrobbler allows you to scrobble your recently played tracks on the iPhone/iPod Touch, and it does it with style.

MobileScrobbler can be installed through Installer.app. It is also available in the Community Sources repository under the Multimedia category.

Using MobileScrobbler is very simple, something that you have come to expect of iPhone. Just open the App after installing it and enter your Last.fm username and password, and Tap Start Scrobbling.

MobileScrobbler will now login to the Last.fm site, and display a music note icon in the status bar letting you know the application is still running in the background.

After logging in, press the Home button on your device and tap the iPod icon and listen to music. Any tracks you play should automatically show up on your Last.fm profile page after you’ve listened to more than half of the track.

To stop submitting tracks, open MobileScrobbler from your home screen and tap “Stop Scrobbling”. The music note in the status bar will disappear and you will be logged out of Last.fm.

To see how many tracks have been scrobbled or queued for this session, as well as the most recent status message from AudioScrobbler, click the “Session Statistics” button.

Microsoft has just announced the availability of Zune Originals . Users who order from the Zune Originals site will be able to customize their Zune with Laser Engraving on the back of their Zunes.

A series of 27 artworks from the “Artist” series will cover the entire Zune. Alternatively, a series of 20 artworks from the “Tattoo” series will allow for up-to 3 lines of text. Finally, without images, you are allowed a maximum of 5 lines of text. All this right behind the back of your Zune. What is disappointing is that people who have already ordered for their Zune will not be able to customize their Zune. Well here is how the ordering process looks like :

Looks like Microsoft is finally innovating Zune and positioning it as a serious competitor to Apple’s iPod that is not so sexy to look at when compared to Apple’s iPod. Gizmodo has a brief summary on why Zune might be better than Apple iPod. 

The New Zune looks too good and has pretty good features too. If you are looking to buy a personal Music player this holidays, go buy a Zune.

The Super iPhone Hacker Core has completed the implementation of AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The Advantage of this software lies in the fact that you can connect to your iPhone and it shows up as a disk with full read/write permissions.

Installing AFP isn’t a straightforward method. It currently involves quite a bit of Manual setup because its not available yet on Installer.app. Well here is how you need to configure your iPhone to be AFP ready,

• Use SFTP to copy the tar file into /opt/iphone
• Extract the archive on your iPhone or touch–the tar archive program is part of the BSD program; use tar xvf name-of-archive.tar–and run /opt/iphone/afp/startserver.sh &.
• Restart when done.
• Open Finder and Choose Go > Connect to Server
• Enter afp://your_ip as the address. Replace your IP with the actual local IP address of the iPhone on your Mac.
• Enter your User id (root) and password (alpine).
• You should now see your iPhone or iPod in the Finder.

Now that you have the iPhone or the iPod as a disk, you will wonder how you ever lived without it. Adding applications is a breeze, just drop them into the Applications folder, or if you want to backup your personal settings copy the /var/root/Library. Well this is just awesome, I tried this on my cousin’s iPod Touch and it worked like a charm.

Head over to Core’s website to grab AFP. Just make sure that you download the one for Registered Users.

Jailbreaking your iPhone or iPod Touch couldn’t get any simpler than this. A team of hackers have come up with what is arguably the best way to jailbreak that Apple Toy of yours. Erica Sadun of the TUAW fame who was one of the developers of jailbreakme.com (I’m not linking to it, because it can wreak havoc with your Desktop Safari Browser)

The jailbreak opens your iPhone for full disk access and installs Installer.app so you can add pretty much any third party application you like. To use it all you need to do is point the Safari Browser on your iPod or iPhone to jailbreakme.com, once there read the instructions and scroll to the bottom, Tap and install AppSnapp. Just after you have done this, your Safari will crash, which means that your iPhone has been successfully jailbreaked.

The iPhone should now restart and Slide to Unlock. On the home screen you will find a shiny new Installer.app icon. Tap it and install apps that you have always wanted on iPhone.

Well here are a few features of this method of Jailbreak!

• Jailbreaks iPhone/iPod Touch on 1.1.1
• Patches Springboard to load third party apps
• Activates non-AT&T iPhones automatically, while leaving already activated phones alone
• Fixes YouTube on non-AT&T iPhones automatically, while leaving already activated phones alone
• Installs Installer.app v3.0b5 on the iPhone/iPod Touch
• Fixes Apple’s TIFF bug, making your device MORE secure than it was without AppSnapp!

Hat Tip : Try the do the Jailbreak over WiFi rather than EDGE, simply because the chances of failure on WiFi is almost nil.

Well a lot of has changed since the 1st gen iPod but even today the iPod has strong marketshare worldwide and I am sure it will continue to be the market leader for many more years. I just can’t wait for Apple to showcase all its new toys like the iPhone and the iPod Touch..

Well as I said in an earlier post that the cat and mouse race is still on, and right now it seems that the hackers are winning the race. We have been seeing a lot of iPhone related news this month and now its the time for iPod touch to steal the show. Well so far the touch was just the younger brother of the mighty iPhone but not now anymore. iPod Touch is now really the best iPod we have seen so far. The guys over at iPhone Dev Team have managed to decrypt the ramdisk of the iPod touch and are now busy running 3rd party apps on it.

Well as you can see the screenshot below, an iPod touch running Google Maps. Now how cool is that! Well iPod touch has become a little bit of more irresistible now.

Well it would be nice if someone gifts me an iPod touch right now. (me winks)

With the latest batch of updates to iPod line, Apple has got itself a clear run ahead of its competitors. On a related the iPhone 4GB is discontinued and the 8GB model now becomes cheaper by about 200$ to cost only 399$.
