If you are a Wordpress user, then I am sure you must be familiar with Akismet, which prevents Comment Spam on millions of Blogs world over. Defensio is trying to make combating evil comment spam even better than what Akismet does already.
- Your comment traffic is routed through Defensio’s spam filtering service.
- Every comment is analyzed by their system and attributed a “spaminess” score.
- Defensio makes the call : Is the comment spam or is it legitimate?
- If it’s legitimate, the comment is immediately posted to your site.
- If it’s spam, the comment is quarantined for your review.
The basic principle of working remains the same, but the only real difference from Akismet is the assignment of a score to a comment. Defensio is not restricted to Blogs only. Its API is pretty vast and can be used on any system with user generated content like Forums, Wiki’s etc.. Defensio also provides RSS feeds for your comments (sorted by spamminess, of course) so you can track them outside of your publishing platform.
