Joost to have Chat thanks to Meebo

joostThe Hottest Online Video Startup in town just got a little more hotter. Lets say its burning hot right now. Joost has just announced integration with Meebo to provide inline Chat into the Joost software that is installed on millions of PC’s worldwide.  If you are a Meebo user, then you can chat within Joost to your buddies on Yahoo, AIM, Gtalk etc.. which means no more shuffling between your favorite messenger software and Joost, the best thing to happen to Online TV..

For the time being the Meebo integration is via Joost Widgets, but over time you can expect it to become more direct and better. Here is a screenshot of the inline Chat in Joost in action :

Google to Connect to Different IM Networks Very Soon

Google seems to be giving GMail quite a push these days isn’t it? First we had the additional storage, then the rollout of IMAP, then a new interface, and now possibly the ability to chat with friends on multiple IM networks using the Jabber Transports feature.

Ionut Alex Chitu over at Google System, while looking through the GMail code found stuff that was related to features not released as yet, which includes,

  • Colors for Labels
  • Detaching Messages from a Conversation
  • And the ability to connect to multiple IM Networks like Yahoo, MSN, AIM etc…

Unlike all-in-one IM clients like Trillian, what makes this possible in Jabber is a piece of software called a gateway (or "transport"), which runs in conjunction with a Jabber server such as jabber.org.
