Just a Week before my hard disk crashed and I lost all my data which includes a vast collection of music and videos and a lot of softwares and apps, and the worst thing was I didn’t have backup of all my stuff. But somehow i managed to get most of the stuff back from my friends, but there was one thing that i couldn’t do. Get my Firefox back in the same condition as it was before the crash. Its been a week now and i have managed to install all my favorite greasemonkey scripts and addons and got my bookmarks etc all set.
And to my utter delight i found this one heck of a Firefox addon called Firefox Environment Backup Extension (FEBE), that does exactly what the name says. Yes you are right it makes a backup of all your current firefox settings like themes, installed addons, themes etc.
Here are some more juicy details about this wonderful extension
- FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up — It will actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files. Now you can easily synchronize your office and home browsers.
- FEBE backs up your extensions, themes, and (optionally) your bookmarks, preferences, passwords, cookies and just about everything else Firefox offers (it can even backup/restore your entire profile).
- Version 5.0 allows for user-defined backups. Single files or entire directories can be specified to back up data for programs like Thunderbird, Greasemonkey, etc.
- Backups can be performed on demand or scheduled for daily, weekly, or monthly unattended runs.
Overall, the Firefox Environment Backup Extension is worth installing. It backs up everything a user can have in his Firefox Web browser — from history, bookmarks, and passwords to extensions and themes. FEBE lets you have the same Firefox environment wherever you like. It’s well-documented, with help available both online and within the extension, which makes FEBE easy to use. If you are a total nerd or just a regular Firefox user, this is one extension you should have.
