Eject USB Devices Faster With USB Disk Ejector

USB devices are the best solutions these days to carry data around rather than using bulky DVD’s, CD’s or even the now ubiquitous Floppy Disk. USB devices are fast and easy to use. The only problem is that while it is really easy to plug in a USB disk/device but while removing it you got to take extra precaution to make sure while ejecting the USB device there is no data loss or damage.

You might ask me, doesn’t Windows already provide a tool that ejects the USB devices safely for you? Yes it does, but its interface is downright confusing to most users, and it has long way to go in comparison to the application I’m previewing here.

USB Disk Ejector is a software that will allow you to quickly remove USB devices in Windows. While the software was originally developed to be used to eject pen drives, but it has now come a long way to support all kinds of USB devices.

As I said the Windows interface for removing USB devices is downright confusing and it has a long way to go before it can beat the simplicity and functionality of USB Disk Ejector.

Apart from a very functional and usable GUI, USB Disk Ejector also has a flexible command line interface that gives you a lot more.

  • Eject the drive that the program is running from.
  • Eject a drive by specifying a drive letter.
  • Eject a drive by specifying a drive name.
  • Eject a drive by specifying a partial drive name.

USB Disk Ejector is a tiny app and is just about 500KB. Just Download, Extract and Run. No installation required.

This tiny app is now going to become a part of my daily life, because I regularly keep using USB devices, and at any moment there is atleast my crappy Nokia 5200, Pen Drive, Memory Card Reader connected. So USB Disk Ejector is one of the must have apps if you are Dailyapps reader.

    usage: sync [-r | drive letters]
    -r flush removeable media
    -e eject removeable media

    Specifying explicit drive letters will flush only those drives.

  • @Giano, yes indeed I was referring to the past when the floppy was a ubiquitous storage device, but it surely isn't anymore. Maybe my statement wasn't clear enough. Will make sure it doesn't happen in the future..

    I don't want to come off like a jerk, but being a "language nazi" I feel it is my duty to inform and correct improper usage whenever necessary. I would hate to think that people are learning the incorrect usage for the word "ubiquitous".

    The word ubiquitous means "something that is everywhere or seems to be everywhere"

    The word ubiquitous does in no way apply to the floppy disk (not since the early nineties) but one could say that the now extinct floppy disk drive has been replaced by the ubiquitous USB flash drive.
  • @V1, Pulling out the device directly is highly not recommended. As Firefox and Ramkesh have already said this can result in data loss..

    Yeah, V1, like FIREFOX said, there are numerous risks associated with the action of pulling a USB drive out without ejecting it... such as corruption, loss of data, etc.

    Regardless, thank you for the post, Karthik. I, err, my parents, only own a total of about 3 or 4 devices, so I don't think USB Disk Ejector would help me or my family at all. Oh, and I'm an only child.

    @V1 well you can risk this. But if your drive is configured for performance instead of plugand playiness. Your drive can go corrupt . No way I'm willing to risk this with my data

    Much better like this. I hate the windows thing. How ever. I had hoped this app could solve the "disk is still in use problem" which it doesn't.
    Maybe there is an extra solution for this?
  • @DJ Flush, I agree that left click on Windows USB Manager and selecting device is a good idea. But if you have many devices ejecting them via Windows is a pain, and that is where USB Disk Ejector comes out on top.

    For a few devices it doesn't make much difference. :)
  • Let me tell you a better and fast solution.

    Left click on Windows USB Manager in Windows + click on device. Boom! thats it
