Windows Vista SP1 To Break Apps Just Like Vista Did!

You surely must have heard about the imminent arrival of Windows Vista SP1. Looks like at the grand party of the release of SP1, it is going to disappoint some apps. Yes you heard that right, SP1 will break support for some apps, just like Vista did on a larger scale when it first came out.

The biggest problem that Vista had when it first came out was the large amount of software incompatibilities. Most people held back from upgrading to Vista fearing that their favorite software or app wouldn’t work on Microsoft’s flagship OS. Things aren’t looking any brighter at the moment with an official Knowledgebase article stating the apps that would break with Windows Vista SP1.

The official list is rather short in my opinion, and I have a feeling that even more apps will break when SP1 comes out. Microsoft doesn’t seem to understand the situation here. If apps continue to break like this with every other release of a service pack, enterprise users are surely going to be in for a big disappointment.

The first service pack is expected to revive Vista, since it received a rather lukewarm response so far. Many business users have been waiting for SP1, hoping that Vista would be more stable. But at the moment, the business users need to hang on.

And about us home users, its even more difficult. What if your favorite app breaks with the arrival of SP1, and you happen to be a tech noob and you can’t figure out what went wrong after upgrading to SP1. Surely we don’t want all this mess, do we? Come on Microsoft, you guys can do better than this!

    We go through this process with every new version of Windows. I have been in the IT world for over 12 years, and I have migrated over to Linux. Why? Because I can avoid all of these problems with upgrading. When upgrading Linux, each distribution is quite similar and Linux is WAY more backwards compatible with older hardware.     I guess we forgot how huge the list of software and hardware incompatability list was with XP when is was when it was 16 months old.
    Vista supports thousands more apps and tens of thousands more hardware components compared to XP at 16 months.
    I remember printing out the list of apps that XP SP1 broke. Hundreds versus the known 12 of Vista SP1.

    O.k.. so I uninstall sp1 thinking it was the cause of some video issues I was having(which turned out to be nvidias problem.) and I completely lost network functionality! I had to restore to a point right back to before I uninstalled vista! When I did the uninstall it removed a wan miniport driver, which was essential for my 2 gigabit ethernet ports to work, and I couldn't find a driver anywhere on the web! The driver was there BEFORE the uninstall! while xp sp2 may have had more problems, the idea is that you shoot for no problems. That's why you TEST, then TEST again to make sure everything works! While I don't seem to be having any problems with sp1 as of yet, I should be able to uninstall it and be able to function properly just like before it was installed!

    Just another cheap shot at Microsoft in general And Vista in particular.

    Just to mention 2 of their points:
    1) XP SP2's incompatibility list was a whole lot longer.

    2) The programs incompatible with SP1 have already released updates and versions that ARE compatible.

    HELLOOO! Does anyone even care to check the facts before bashing? It kind of sickens me already.

    I can't understand it, they should release a new service pack to get a better SO but they didn't, it just looks worst now..

    P.S. There IS a work-around to prevent Vista from loading the bootloader to a separate drive as that of the operating system by shutting off all drives in the BIOS except for the target drive.

    I've already tried SP1 hoping it would resolve stability issues to no avail. I've held off from Vista this long to see if SP1 would be the cure all. I think it's actually worse. 3 blue screens during the few hours that I tested it.

    Still no adequate driver support for my Sony Handycam, my Intel modem caused a blue screen at shutdown, print driver hell, etc. Not to mention Vista's insistance on installing the boot loader to the WRONG drive when using a mix of SATA and IDE hard drives during installation. XP's even smarter than that!

    I've officially discarded Vista as another "Windows ME"--a worthless waste of time. Why ANY business in their right mind would subject themselves to both the obvious and the hidden costs of Vista, for less performance than XP, I'll never fathom. Microsoft's emperor wears no clothes. They're lost. They've lost touch with both reality and their customers.
