Every other day we see an app being built that takes advantage of the versatile Flickr API. An App that caught my eye today was 1001 that bills itself as the desktop version of Flickr. Though 1001 carries a weird name, it performs just about everything the online version of Flickr does, be it upload photos, tagging, browsing streams, or just about anything else you can do with Flickr.

1001 is a powerhouse, I just installed it on my Hackintosh PC (OSX Running on PC) and it works like a charm. The App has an intuitive UI and is fun to use. I uploaded some photos and tagged them and it worked flawlessly. But all this is already done well by the Official Flickr Uploader, so let me focus on the other features of this amazing app.

  • sm_streamsRecent Streams

The main window lists the most recent images for the current stream or all streams. To switch between streams you can use the pop-up menu in the bottom of the window or, much quicker, using the left and right arrow keys. The search box lets you quickly filter out images based on title, description, username, or tags.

  • sm_prefsStream Settings

You can set up as many streams as you want to monitor your favorite tags, groups, contacts, or Flickr’s interestingness photos. Each stream can have its own update frequency and label.

  • sm_upload Upload Window

The uploader is compact, yet powerful. You can upload one photo at a time or in batches. Each photo or selected set of photos can be assigned a title, description, a set, a group, privacy settings and tags. Photos can also be scaled and/or rotated.

  • sm_imageviewImage Viewer

When you double-click a thumbnailed photo in the streams window or when you press the return key, a viewer window pops up showing the large version of the selected photo. Clicking the user icon will take you to his or her Flickr page.

  • sm_mineMy Stream

1001 has a separate window for the latest twenty photos from your own Flickr page. You can use this to select one of your uploaded photos and blogging about it using the “Blog This” toolbar button.

Coming from the makers of the popular ecto blogging software for the Mac, 1001 is one of the must have apps for a Flickr Addict. I am just in love with this amazing app. I suggest you give 1001 a try, I’m pretty sure you will fall in love with it.

1001 is free, so that only makes the deal a lot more sweeter. Download 1001 from here
