Hack Attack : Install Leopard On your PC in Just One Step
Update : If you are looking for a guide to Dual Boot Windows Vista and Mac OSX Leopard, please follow this guide Hack Attack : Dual Boot Leopard and Windows Vista. The Dual Boot Guide is a comprehensive guide and it should work for most of you with a little bit of hard work.
Here is a complete guide to install Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.1 (9B18) on your PC, in just one step that is as easy as it could possibly get. Just pop in the DVD and you are good to go, running Leopard in no time, with all the 300+ features at your fingertips.
Its been nearly two months, since I last wrote my guide to Install Leopard on your PC in just 3 Steps. Well I wanted to write a better How-To that would answer many questions that people had from my previous How-To.
I am writing this guide for a novice user, who doesn’t know much about the various commands that went into my previous article. This is a one step process that almost anybody in this world would be able to follow.
Here are the basic requirements for you to proceed with the installation of Leopard :
- A Blank DVD-R to burn the ISO.
- The ISO image to be downloaded from Mininova.
Before I tell you, how to install OSX I would like to tell you why this release by Uphuck and Eskurza is an important milestone in the OSX86 Project.
- This is the first ever Leopard DVD to come out with the amazing PC-EFI built in. If you are wondering what PC-EFI is all about, then let me tell you something about it :
With the EFI patch, the hackintosh can boot off VANILLA UNMODIFIED OS X kernel and use vanilla kexts, which gives a more clean room and great peace of mind for future system updates.
To Know more about PC-EFI visit the OSX86 Wiki
- iATKOS (as this release is called) supports a variety of Hardware configurations, and many popular Graphic Cards, Network Cards are supported.
Now lets proceed with the installation of Leopard. Before that here are few conditions your CPU must satisfy to use this installation method..
- Non Core Intel Processors, no PC-EFI for you.
- Core Based Processors, for PC-EFI to work.
- AMD processors are not supported at this time.
Ok now, lets proceed with the installation :
Step 1: Installing Leopard
- Download the Installation ISO from Mininova. You can find it by performing a search for iATKOS v1.0i (Its about 2.09 GB).
- Once you are done, with downloading burn the ISO at very slow speeds to the DVD.
- Pop in the DVD and boot into it from BIOS and follow the Onscreen Instructions.
- Select the Appropriate Packages, based on your hardware and then proceed.
- Installation might take about an hour or so, so grab yourself a cup of coffee while you install Leopard.
Step 2: That is all my, my Friend
- Didn’t I say it was a one step installation process. Yes it really was.. Congratulations you’ve done it.
That’s it for now. I will be updating this post in the future, when the AMD patch is released. If you have any questions, please drop in a comment, or ask your questions in the Uphuck Forums.
A big thanks to Uphuck and Eskurza for this amazing release. A lot of credit for all this hardwork goes to them. And ofcourse to Netkas for the development of PC-EFI. Cheers!
Please seed for atleast a couple of days, once you have finished downloading. This will help other people to get this amazing release faster.

Hey, I am in the process of downloading this. However, from previous experiences with other releases, it is possible. I don’t see why not with this version.

Amit- I think maybe you should get your general computing skills to a higher bar before trying something that is a little tricky, as this may prove to be. Any time you install a non-native OS you will probably be swimming in troubled waters.
Also, the best way to get help is to sit, breathe, and ponder your question before posting so it comes out in a legible manner. Thank you.
Karthik- Thanks for the guide, Im happy with ubuntu atm, but this is something I’ve been wanting to try for a while. Any chance we can get an article on extended compatibility? (i.e. battery usage, quirks, stability, etc)

I downloaded the file, installed it on a Sony VGN-N365E laptop with core duo processor. I booted from cd, It showed dos errors for about 30 minutes then, started up OSX install. i had to reformat a partition on my HD for OSX extended journaled, The install completed and Leopard is running great, Wifi works, and its even faster than my Macbook 13 nch with the same processor. However, there is no sound and i MUST boot from the disc to get to the operating system. Afterwards i can eject the disc and use the mac as usual. The only other, small glitch i noticed was the tap to click on the touchpad not available and the battery bar doesnt exist. Besides that, great job on this OS!!!

there are 30 seeds now….but the seeder:leecher ratio is hovering around .006 this number should be up around 1.00 and higher for a good, stable torrent.
The download speeds are great until ~86%…..based on my last post this number is good, i guess. It is up, which means someone is connected to a seed.

if you don’t mind me asking. What are rate are you uploading to the community? maybe you could do a dedicated upload tonight. Only upload this torrent and use your full upload bandwidth. If my file would get any farther than 89.9% I would be glad to continue seeding the file after it was finished. *sigh* I’m currently uploading at 50kBps which is a hell of alot more than I’m able to download which usually sits anywhere between 0.1 to 0.5kBps. If I ever get to 100% I’ll increase my upload speed. In the meantime I obviously need to download the rest of the file from somewhere so — You know who you are. If your file is at 100% that dosent mean stop the file and close the window. It helps if you seed for a while after your downoad has completed.

update on above i after a little searching found that you have to respond immediately otherwise it tries to look for a non existent file.
unfortunately the dvd activity indicator only flashed a couple times and it is stuck on the spinning wheel and it never boots.
i forgot to mention there is only 256 meg of ram in the machine i wouldnt think that would cause any problems since the boot is very minimal and os x has an always on virtual memory.

I downloaded, seeded for a while, and will some more. Then I successfully burned CD, although at high (18X) speed. I was able to boot, got to the load screen, but when I followed the directions and started to erase a partition, it hiccuped–it wasn’t able to load the partition, because the format was wrong. This was an old linux installation I don’t use anymore, I think it’s in reiserfs, but maybe ext3. Anyway, I’m going to use GParted to reformat the drive, and then I will proceed with the installation.

after some work i found that it may be a bad mother board because while the in staller for the uphuck version of 10.4.9 booted the hard drive was not being recognized.
and so i tried it in a hp pavilion 500 intel celeron cpu.
and the dvd started to boot and gave a kernel panic for 10.4.9 and leopard would not work either.
are i know that celerons are intel but do they act like amd’s?

I have installed iATKOS though I am unsure if I’ve selected the right configuration settings. I’ve tried several configurations, none seem to boot fully. The closest I can get is booting off the hard disk (but only if the leopard disc is in the CD tray), loading most of Leopard, and coming to a screen that states I must restart my machine. Without the disc in the tray, Bios checks for CD boot, drops down one line, and sits with a blinking cursor indefinately.

just go to isohunt.com and the first torrent went very well to me. I downloaded it in about 2 hours
now.. i’m having problems instaling it!
when the white window with the aplle shows.. i ear some noise from the DVD.. and then it stops, and the computer restarts after a litle while!
and when i press F8 when it ask me to, i write “rd=disk0s1″ and a window appears telling me to press restart button or power button for a while, because it need to restart.
i tried to write “-v” when i press F8 and a lot of lines with things written appears, and then the last one is:
“ERROR: Firewire – unable to determine security-mode; defaulting to full-secure”
and then.. it stays there for about 15seconds and then restarts again!
does anyone have the same problem? or have any idea of what am i doing wrong?
need some help, plz

I Have A Problem Trying To Install Also. I am using hp pavilion zx5280.
Specs: P4 3.20GHZ W/HT
80 Gig Hdd,
1 gig Kingston Value Ram
I have Noticed that leopard is 64 bit. That can be part of the problem since alot of older processeors are not 64 bit capable. Have download via mininova. burned at 5,540kbs using magic iso. Also This Is A laptop I am Using.
When I just let it boot on its own it gets to apple screen then reboots.
When I use advanced options and type -v it loads hfs a few times then restarts. Idk what the problem is. if anyone can help thanxs. I will be buying a macbook soon anyways but whant to c if it worth the money

Ok I downloaded vmware and tried installing it through there. whell this is what it states. *** Virtual machine kernel stack fault (hardware reset) ***
The virtual machine just suffered a stack fault in kernel mode. On a real computer, this would amount to a reset of the processor. It can be caused by an incorrect configuration of the virtual machine, a bug in the operating system, or a problem in the VMware Workstation software. Press OK to reboot virtual machine or Cancel to shut it down.

Most of the hanged proccess issues have been resolved with iATKOS_v1.0ir2, at the moment there is no ISO image created, but there is a patch for the 1.0i version.
Note, most of the torrents presented on this thread, do not comply with the original md5 tracker of the Patched DVD. I cannot verify the validity of the tors presented herein, hence, if there is anyone using them, leave your comments here please.
intend to do the same in a couple of hours, patching and installing the iATKOS on a Nocola dual Xeon, under a Precision 470 Dell workstation.

Just installed Leopard over my existing dual-boot Vista/OSX 10.4.9 system, leopard installed fine, but when I come to register, I select location and keyboard, but then it won’t let me get past the “time machine” backup/restore screen. In the old install I could quit the registration process by pressing Alt+Q (aka Apple+Q) but this one refuses (shut down or continue). Any ideas? I had successfully downloaded the iATKOS version of Leopard and the version that uses the three step process with the patch. In both cases I wind up with a blinking cursor on a black screen and it never boots.
I tried all of the suggested fixes which included using the GParted Live CD to set the boot flag and the other ideas which included using the terminal mode on the install DVD iso and entering the Unix commands to make the partition active. I was attempting this install on an attached USB drive. All to no avail. While I would have liked to have gotten this OS working I began to wonder why. Probably for the thrill of getting something for nothing that otherwise cost upwards of $125 and for the joy of hacking.
But to be practical I know a better way to achieve the security of a Unix (LInux) environment without all of the hassles this Leopard install has caused me (Over 48 hours of trial and errors). I downloaded the latest version of PCLinux and had it working in less than 1 hour !
Sound, ethernet , video, internet, and the security of Linux.
Hats off to anyone who can get this hacked version of Leopard to work
on an intel PC. But PCLinux works just fine on any system that has
come out in the last 5 years or so.

The Darwin/x86 kernel loads but after that my computer keeps rebooting.
2 ideas for you all:
1. There may be a problem with SLi nvidia cards.
2. There may be a problem with RAID arrays.
If any of you have this working with EITHER combo, it would be cool to know that there is some other problem. Thanks!

Anyone see what I see? First posts were full of shear excitement! You poor depraved windows users were finally going to get Leopard. The next series of posts were impatient pirates eagerly waiting for this luscious OS. And now, the posts are all distress calls. . .pleading for help. “Install Leopard on your PC in JUST ONE STEP.” For me it was one easy step. I bought the leopard disc put it in my Macbook and voila, I installed Leopard. Apparently you all want what Apple has to offer. Just man up and get one, you won’t be dissatisfied.

as far as i understood this topic you only can boot leopard when its the only os installed (so you would have to remove windows).
I have 2 HDDs in my notebook so i tryed it with only one of them and it worked, but at the registration my keyboard didn’t work so i couldn’t continue.
I think we all shoud wait for a “better”, newer release which is more simple to install and works better.

Hey Macaliscious,
If Apple had of brought out leopard ages ago then maybe we would have got a mac. I say maybe too because the price of them is outrageous.
Have a look at the upgrade price of the macbook pro to get the ram upgraded from 2gig to 4gig. $1000. A freekin $1000. Thats an entire laptop brand new from the shop.
Maybe if the Macs weren’t so friggen expensive more people would buy them.

Hey queppa,
Macs are expen$sive, especially ram. But that is because Apple doesn’t want to be i the ram game. I recently upgraded the ram in my macbook (from 1g to 2 g). If I would have gone through Apple it would have set me back $300. I went with crucial ram and it was only $55. Not to be cliche: you get what you pay for. A $400 laptop will have the performance and longevity of a $400 laptop. . .

In response to: “If Apple had of brought out leopard ages ago then maybe we would have got a mac.”
It is not like Apple to rush getting things out because of a predetermined release date. Dropping a new OS is a big deal, requiring a lot of TLC. When things are rushed we end up with buggy systems–I will refrain from metioning any specific OS, but I think it’s pretty obvious which rushed buggy OS I am referring too. One gig just to run the OS, come on Bill you can do better than that.

Re: “Maybe if the Macs weren’t so friggen expensive more people would buy them.”
Macs are not really all that expensive, I mean, of course you can get some PC’s for a lot cheaper, but you do get what you pay for, and Mac hardware is pure genius Take the new iMac for example… ever try to open one? no screws… ever notice how the glass screen is black around the edges? That is because it is magnetized, so suction cups pull the glass off. GENIUS! They are all amazing. With that being said, prices have dropped, a macbook $1,000, a new imac for $1,000. And these are nice powerful core2duo machines.
As far as the memory comment, YES… Apple branded memory, which is usually hynix or kingston with an apple sticker is very expensive. However…. so is memory from Dell, or HP, HP kills Mac in the memory price. So go buy non-apple branded memory. it works fine, back when we had powerpcs, yes, some brands were flaky, but not now.
In the end, the thing is that Macs last a LONG time. You don’t need a new computer ever few years to run stuff, that concept only applies to Microsoft. When it comes to mac & Linux, a hardware upgrade is a luxury, not a requirement. We still have people using Blue & Whites (but they are very slow). Either way, a real mac is well worth the cost.

This guide is rubbish. Allow me to write a guide on how to Build a House in Just One Step using this page as a template.
Step One: Building the house
- Go to Home depot and buy house parts.
- build a house using those parts.
If this procedure was really as easy as is claimed, there wouldn’t be volumous numbers of posts from people who can’t follow your ‘one step’ procedure and zero posts about how to correct errors.
If someone wouldn’t mind posting an actual guide on how to properly configure leopard on common hardware configurations, there are a lot of folks here who would greatly appreciate it.

The torrent download for iATKOS v1.0i was going to take me about 3 days. I am not going to beg people to seed. I am a big fan of usenet. If you have a news account you can find the .rars for iATKOS v1.0i in alt.binaries.cd.image
For those of you as impatient as me, it took 45 minutes to download the approx 2 GB of .rars
Also the image is good, I have loaded it successfully

ASUL — peaceful New Year 2008!
I think the Goal IS to make one “Triboot-PC”:
Partition #1-> FAT32 => WINXP
Partition #2-> EFI
Partition #3-> HFS+ => OSX
Partition #4-> EXT3 => / (for ubuntu-LINUX)
Partition #5-> swap (for Linux)
Partition #6-> EXT3 => /home (for ubuntu-LINUX)
First -> You have to Partitionate the HDD
with ubuntu-Live CD (GParted).
Then -> You have to install the Three OSes! in this Order too,
so when ubuntu write the GRUB on MBR, you can
easy choose your System at BOOT from “GRUB-List”.
I do this in Juni/07 from ubuntu & RUN!
EASY Going …
Thanks and Try it …
–> after Back-Up your Files!

Also a Dell user
This 10.5.1 “iATKOS” version of Mac OS X 10.5 works on a Dell Dimension 3000. Specs:
2.4 GHz Celeron with 128 kB cache
533 MHz FSB
256 MB RAM (at 333 MHz)
no FireWire
40 GB PATA HD
DVD-R drive
Intel worthless graphics
100 Mbps Ethernet
The sound didn’t worked under a hacked 10.4.8 installation. So I hope it works under 10.5. Haven’t tested that yet.
I don’t know the exactly model number for the Celeron processor. But the computer was bought in Jan ‘05.
I hate that the BIOS requires the PS/2 keyboard. I cannot use an USB keyboard in the BIOS. So I must have 2 keyboards connected. The Dell PS/2 keyboard and the Apple USB keyboard. I love the Apple keyboard with CTRL, ALT and CMD keys.
Another “trouble” is that I cannot change the graphics in System Prefs. I can only use 1024×768 with millions of colors. I cannot switch to lower or higher.
I have no support for Quartz Extreme or Core Image/Video/…
The performance is good enough for web browsing, text editing, chat programs, server applications…
I just wanted to say that 10.5 works on this computer!

Here’s the thing guys,
You could suffer through 5 days of downloading (because no one seeds). Then spend 5 hours on configurations so that you can just get Leopard on your PC, and then make some sacrifices in terms of the Leopard functionality (no wireless?).
OR… you can just get a MAC! The problem is still that Apple designs its software around its hardware and vice versa. That’s why the wireless only detects airport. It’s just that simple, Apple software is made for Apple computers. Now, if you want to argue tying and bundling violations, contact the DOJ and FTC.
Mac minis start at $ 600, they are FAR superior to any DELL or HP for that price. Mac books are $ 1000, take the money that you would have spent on “optimization services” at Geek Squad and spend it on a Mac.
However, if you do want an alternative experience, one is that is free of hassles and confines of Windows, do what real gangstas do, get Ubuntu (fast and free!). Ubuntu Gutsy is awesome!
Before you say Linux is for geeks, I have many friends who doesn’t know their way around Windows use Ubuntu. It’s become very user friendly.
So get a Mac, or get Ubuntu.

What for a wireless card have you?
I Install ubuntu in all PCs I found, and have no wireless Problems, you have on the taskbar the available wireless and only need to pick one and type the WPA or WEP and ready!
And Ethernet goes automatic on DHCP, only for PPPoE you need to type in Terminal, if wireless or ethernet, but run!
But I have one Problem NoW :0(= For All of You with Positive Install:

OSx86 User
Alright all you people who can’t get the iso to work on your machine…
The reason your install doesn’t work is because you’re videocard, processor, etc is NOT supported by Apple! Apple is not Microsoft! Look, the reason Apple has a reputation for being more stable than Windows is because Apple supports only a LIMITED amount of hardware. That is, the native hardware you buy when you buy an Apple computer! So you can NOT install OS X on just any random PC!! Your PC’s hardware has to be compatible with what Apple supports natively, or you’ll have to track down the drivers you need and install them yourself. Period.
Hardware that works:
http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.5.1
If you want to build your own hackintosh: http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=8773007
http://lifehacker.com/software/hack-attack/build-a-hackintosh-mac-for-under-800-321913.php
Or buy a new PC that is compatible out of the box:

BMK,
I don’t mind doing the research and doing the leg work to get this working. Many times, someone has the knowledge and experience to quickly get around some of the generic problems and can help you get things working in a short period of time. I know it wouldn’t be as much fun as degrading or insulting people, but if the solution to their problem is that they have to research and find drivers, why not just provide a website URL that they can go to – to research their answers.
I started out loading Slackware on my PCs years ago and found documentation in the package and websites that helped me work through my driver/configuration problems. Trying to load the MAC OS is slightly different where it doesn’t seem to have much documentation to research right now. I understand that my laptop may not even be able to handle the instruction set needed to run the MAC OS. I was told there is a utility you can run to check this and am currently trying to find it.
If you’re in a position where you may know where to find the information, but don’t know the exact resolution, please just be kind and direct us in the right direction so we can find the answers on our own. And yes, some may be new to the level of computing you need to understand to get devices to work with Linux or even the MAC OS, but they need to start somewhere.
I’ve been concentrating on college course while working a full time job these past six years and haven’t had time to stay up on my skills with Linux and admit I’m a bit rusty. All I ask is to just point me in the right direction so I can find how to get the drivers (or even build them) and pull them into the iso image.
My 2 cents…. Hope you had a Happy New Year.

I’m new to this however I’m quite familiar with computers. I get the DVD to boot up and begin the install and get to the screen where it tells me to select a drive but nothing is there. Is this because my drive still has a copy of VISTA and I need a clean formated drive?
I also tried doing the install in VMWARE. It keeps crashing asking me to reset. I’m not sure why, I get to the apple logo and thats it.
I’m doing this on my DELL XPS M1710.

Leopard runs on my pentium 4, 1gb ram with geforce 4 TI 4200…but very slowly…would another grafic-card boost the performance? or might it be another problem?

Sorry, forgot: every boot i have to enter “rd=disk0s1″ with my boot-dvd insert. it there a way to save those setting in a “boot.config” and to boot to leopard without my dvd? thanks

Please note!
I partitioned my DELL XPS M1710 hard drive and reformatted the partition using the Disk Utility off the boot DVD. It picked up the drive and I started to install. It checked the DVD and it began the install. About 25mins into the install my laptop rebooted (the blue bar didn’t complete loading). It then told me there was no OS. It still showed that Vista was on my C Drive and that something was on my New drive. I couldn’t get my laptop to boot. I had to reformat and reinstall Vista.
Is there anything I did worng?

Hi all! First a big thank you to all you clever people out there for helping to get Mac OS X to work on a PC.
However, I cannot get it to work, it just wouldn’t boot.
I am using a Thinkpad T60 (Centrino), Core2Duo 2.2 GHZ, ATI X1600.
Here’s what I did: I replaced the internal HDD with a blank one. I used the Mac OS X DiskUtil to erase and format the HDD. Strangely, I always got GUID map type at first whenever trying to create a single partition. In fact, I would actually end up with two partition, the first very tiny (200MB) and invisible, only visible in the GParted LiveCD, the second being the actually desired Macintosh HD. I instead had to create two partitions first to actually be able to select MBR map type instead of GUID type. Then I erased the whole HDD again to create one partition (HFS+, journaled) only, but MBR map type setting would luckily persist. Gnome would also then show a single partition formatted with HFS+.
Now I installed the Darwin boot loader, installed Mac OS X, but afterwards and further on all I got is a blinking cursor after system restart. I used the GParted LiveCD to set the boot flag, but it wouldn’t help. I tried a couple of settings and combinations and so forth, but still no success. I’ve read all the instructions again and again, but I ran out of ideas.
Any idea what’s wrong? Am I stupid? Don’t I deserve Mac OS X??
Thanks, guys!

I have succesfully install the (previous ?) image of X86 community than iATKOS, on dual celeron 3,2./1gb/
Needs a proper ethernet card, sees one core, run superb!
I believe that this image has better info and its more controllable.
A) try 1 booter at a time
B) Clean install every time that you try installing
C) don’t add drivers that you don’t need
D) check “on the fly” discs and ethernet
C) try without vanilla kernel
Buy Leopard and set it up by yourself (X86 how to), worth it!

I had a weird problem with both versions of iATKOS. v1.0 wouldnt boot at all, kept rebooting at the Darwin screen whereas v1.0r2 booted into the installer but my input devices woulnt work (usb or ps2). I couldnt continue with the install. Horribly frustrating experience.
SOLUTION: Popped in the r2 dvd, as soon as it got to the white screen with the apple logo, I ejected ther disc and inserted the 1.0 disc (found out later that the kernels didnt match but the issue was resolved). PS2 input devices worked now and I managed to complete the install.
However, usb is still not working…

When I try to boot off this, it pops up with the darwin bootloader, then I hit enter and the little slash-hyphen-straight line-slash progress spinning thingy goes for a bit, then disappears and my computer restarts. I’ve tried with -v and -vanilla switches, -v shows that it loads the kext files and it says “starting darwin/x86″ and POOF computer restarts. I’m using an intel core 2 duo E6550 with SSE2, SSE3 and SSSE3 (no idea what that is) as well as EM64T and it still doesn’t work. I tried using a flat disk but it does the exact same thing. Help, anyone?

I installed this version of OSX86 to the first partition of my third hard drive multiple times without being able to actually boot into the operating system. I finally figured out how to get it to boot and I thought I’d share my experience here.
My system was previously a dual-boot Ubuntu/Windows XP setup with grub bootloader. The issue was when I installed OSX it killed grub, but didn’t overwrite it. I tried installing the Darwin booloader to all three hard drives multiple times but it never seemed to actually write to the MBR.
Since I couldn’t boot into any OS now I decided to try to fix grub. I did this by booting off the Ubuntu live cd and running the following commands in a terminal:
sudo grub
root (hd2,2)
setup (hd2)
The commands above overwrote the MBR with grub and made my system bootable again. So once in Ubuntu I decided to see if I could get grub to load OSX. Also from a terminal I did:
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
and added the following lines to the bottom:
title OSX86
root (hd2,0)
chainloader +1
This also, surprisingly enough, was able to boot Darwin with PC-EFI enabled. Hopefully this helps any of the people with multiboot options or issues booting.

Hello, I’ve recently tried to install iATKOS version of Leo on my PC.
Even though the installation claims itself to be successful, when I reboot, I do not see mac os in the bootloader.
I went back and tried to apply the darwin dual boot, and I am still having the same problem.
The partition in which I installed leo is formatted in HFS+.
I had the same problem with the 3 step guide, in which I tried both fat32 and HFS+; it also claimed to have been a successful install by the installer.
Would you have any hints or tips that I may want to try in my case?
I use an intel duo core, and in the url bellow is some information about my system.
I have two HDs on my machine, both sata, and the second hd is partitioned in two sections (reason is because on the previous 3 step guide I tried naming one patcher and the other leopard and test each of them, after I had the HD with a single partition not work with patcher).

Okay, I believe I have made some progress.
I deleted the partition and formatted to a single HFS+ partition, then ran Darwin Boot and OS install…. I get a new “result.”
When my computer starts up (and it doesn’t even load onto Windows now), it displays:
HFS+ partition error
and does go anywhere from there.
What do I do???

Hi,
I want to know if I should bother to attempt installing Leopard on my PC. If it works, I think I’ll basically have a pretty good Mac Pro.

NOTE:
The items marked with * are components that I’m willing to sacrifice (aka “sell on eBay”) if Leopard has a problem with them.
The items marked with ** are components that I’m pretty sure are irrelevant in terms of Leopard compatibility.
Anyway, let me know what you think. If I do this, I’m considering buying a removable SATA hard drive enclosure and another 500GB drive. That way I can leave my current system alone (i.e. take out the whole hard drive) while I mess around with this.
I look forward to your reply.
Cheers.

Hey,
One more thing. If I get this running well (i.e. like it would run on a real Mac), what happens when Apple wants to update the operating system? Will everything break on me?
Also, do we need to do anything special to our BIOS?
Should we stay off of the internet when installing or does it matter?
Can I install this directly onto a blank hard drive?
How should the hard drive be formatted?
So many questions!!!
I’m totally stoked to do this!
I’m so sick of Microsoft and Vista.
Cheers.

Can anybody tell me why all of the actual non-hacked Leopard DVD’s out there (i.e. isohunt) are over 6GB while the OSx86 one is only around 2.09 to 2.44 GB? That seems weird to me. Am I missing something?

OK Guys….. I had a problem with not being able to boot from the HDD. It would only allow me to boot with the iATKOS DVD in the drive. Here is what I found that worked for me… Good Luck:
Download iATKOS_v1.0i.iso from Limewire or any other P2P Site
Burn ISO onto DVD at slow speed
Start up iATKOS installation
Run Disk Utility before installation
Format drive as Mac OS Extended (journaled)
Select Partition
Create 1 Partition
Select Opions… and make sure Master Boot is selected
Label new partition ‘LEOPARD’
OK to create partition
Install iATKOS on drive
System will automatically reboot when finished
***Making the HDD Bootable (without the DVD)***
Download GPartedLiveCD to make Master Boot Partition Bootable
Burn ISO for GPartedLiveCD
Boot GPartedLiveCD
Select Nvidia for Graphics Adapter
At desktop r-click partition, flags, check boot, OK
Restart System
Boot on iatkos install DVD
Run Darwin_Boot and install EFI on Master Boot Partition
Reboot system
Remove iATKOS CD
DONE
The problem was that the iATKOS installation was NOT making the Master Boot Record a bootable partition as indicated in the “One Step Procedures” above. You should know that not everything is one step. Would be nice, but… we are working with a hack here.

I think I figured out why the OSx86 hack version is so much smaller than the Mac-only Leopard ISOs. I think it’s because the Mac-only versions have to support non-Intel Macs as well. The OSx86 version can obviously be much smaller. I’m pretty sure that is the reason anyhow.
Looking forward to some feedback to my MOUNTAIN of posts. Sorry guys, but I never think up all of my questions at once and, if I don’t post them when I think of them, I will forget.

I’m affraid that all torrents available at present are a fake.
I’ve dowloaded the file for 3 times from different trackers and after checking the md5 and burning the image to a blank DVD (at slow speed) I get a ridiculous 542KB size DVD, which obviously do almost nothing. It starts, loads some init files and then reboots over and over.
Help accepted. Thanks in advance

Hi Jorgal,
That can’t be true can it. There must be some legitimate ISO’s out there somewhere. Feedback from everybody would be great.
Maybe we’ll have to wait until 10.5.2 comes out so that we can jump on it while people are still seeding it.
Cheers!
Jan 17th, 2008

Hi meaintsmart,
I’m not sure if this is still the case, but Apple has a reputation for making their operating systems fairly backwards compatible and able to run on quite a range of hardware (further back than Windows could at least). For instance, I’m pretty sure that OSX Tiger runs on non-Intel Macs as well as Intel Macs. So, basically, if a person went into an Apple store last year and bought OSX Tiger, he’d only need to by one disc. I think that the OSX setup application detects which CPU-type you have and then installs the correct code. If that still holds true with OSX Leopard, then that would account for why the OSx86 hack ISO’s are so much smaller than the Intel Mac non-hacked Leopard DVD ISO’s. All the non-Intel code has been stripped out. At least that’s my theory.
Cheers.

not sure about partitioning wit iATKOS, THEORETICALLY (dont hold me to it!!) files on other partitions should be safe, that is, if the installer supports partitioning.
sorry i cant further assist you with that :/

Hi guys, just to put my experience as well…
I manage to sucessfully install Leopard on my VAIO TZ. I download the ISO, burned, did everything as said. I made the partition with Vista and installation was pretty smooth.
But now got some issues. Can’t boot without DVD in it (sometimes even boots to installation, sometimes freezes on apple screen, sometimes boots just fine!! just keep trying…). If I don’t leave the DVD in in, I got some problem as Jennifer above (HFS+ partition error).
Leopard is running good, sound is just great (even Fn+F3 key as sony volume would work as Mac volume!!), but no wifi so far. Even BT is working great, made some file transfers. Other bad thing is screen resolution – only can get 1024×768, which looks weird not being widescreen (huge black part on the right, not pretty!)
But also can’t boot into windows vista anymore, I think I lost my system. Tried to made a complete PC restore, couldn’t.
I’ll try to get recovery CDs and restore my computer, and maybe wait for a more stable version. If I can boot both Vista or XP and Leopard that would be great.

I would like to use Leopard on my PC by loading it to an external hard drive, then booting to the hard drive. Is this possible and if so what are the steps?
I use some software on windows that I would prefer to keep and I thought this might be preferable to attempting to setup a dual boot system.

In addition to my above question:
I can get Leopard free from my company and would prefer not to download it if possible.

I think whoever said the tracks being seeded are fake is right… I think that explains some of my back of success. I looked at my DVD and just noticed it is 1.02 GB in size… I don’t think that is correct…
And if that is right…

It can be caused by an incorrect configuration of the virtual machine, a bug in the operating system, or a problem in the VMware Workstation software. just to clear up the deleting files thing:
FOR PEOPLE WITH ONE PARTITION (MOST TYPICAL USERS):
Macintosh uses its own file system, HFS, and windows uses NTFS or FAT32, therefore, in order for it to install, it needs to reformat your hard drive to convert it to HFS, so if you only have one partition, everything will definitely be gone.
FOR PEOPLE WITH MULTIPLE PARTITIONS:
With most OSes you have the ability to format just one partition and leave the rest alone, however, remember that OS X is specifically designed for Apple computers, and im not sure that they support partitions during install (with an apple, you partition after you install (beleve it or not), using BootCamp). so to be safe, i would back up everything important that you have on your PC
sorry i cant help with multiple partitions, ive never done it on an Apple

Hi, first of all…great post! Then, you said you’d update when a version for Amd is released. i think it’s been released. I went to mininova and searched “iatkos v1.0i” and i got some results, two of them are called “iATKOS v1 0i_AMD_patched.iso”, of 2.44Gb.
Do you know if this is something to make leopard work on AMD, and then i’ll have to download the iso of leopard? or if this is leopard with AMD support??

Hi,
Downloaded 7.8GB Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.iso which has BootCamp setup.exe, .pdf and Mac OS X Install DVD.dmg in it. Took 4 days to download torrent.
For Vista dual boot: there is a program (free) called TweakVI that installs onto Vista, it gives you the option to download and install EasyBCD, which allows for a variety of multi-boot options: other Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.
If you have Vista on your system already, this is a good way to go.
Once I’ve a functioning dual boot, I’ll document it here.

I’m wondering how many people have successfully installed this on a laptop. I’ve got a Sony VGN-FZ290 which is just the Intel GM965 chipset and whenever I try to install Mac OSX using the iATKOS image the Apple logo will pop up and the spinning circle thing underneath will do its thing. After this it looks like it doesn’t recognize my monitor because half the screen is teal vertical lines and the other half is gray lines. I read around and some people said that you need to plug the laptop into a screen or use a dongle and I was wondering if anybody else had any input on what’s going on with the strange half blue-half gray screen and whether I can do it without a dongle or an external monitor.

This is a frustrating blog site !!! You post something and guess what !?!?! NO ONE REPLIES !!! THAT’S JUST AWESOME !!! Now that’s sarcasm at it’s best and it’s just another free service I provide. All kidding aside, I really wish someone could email me a legitimate link to a web site that I can download this bit torrent that is NOT mininova.com. What? Did someone at Apple find a way to disable not only this torrent’s website but the other’s as well. I got a feeling that’s what happened. PLEASE SOMEONE CHALLANGE ME ON THIS ONE AND TELL ME I’M WRONG !!! make sure the disc is in before to start your computer. when you start your computer right when you see the screen you have to press esc. then it asks me to press f1 and it goes to bios. then i had the change the boot order to CD-ROM – HDD – LAN etc. so that the computer boots the cd-rom first. then you press end and y for yes and it will ask you to press any key to start installing Darwinx87. then it should go to the apple screen with the loading wheel thing. i haven’t been able to get passed that though. the wheel just keeps going round and round. I think it is because i only have an intel centrino processor.

You asked about the version for AMD processors. Well, I’m downloadind one that i found in mininova, just search iATKOS and there are two files for AMD, just download the one with more seeds.
I’m also downloading one from rapidshare, but it’s splitted in 35 parts of 100Mb each.

I tend to agree about the lack of answers here but maybe there was never an intention to answer any. Whatever the case, I was able to install this OK – at least it appeared to install OK. I get the continual loop of boots if I do not boot to the CD. Gray screen with Apple for a second or two and then reboot. I am a Windows guy and I have seen this in Windows when a video driver is bad or some other driver causes a problem at boot. I just don’t know enough about Apple’s OS to try to add a driver from the install screen. Maybe there is a way to load a new driver from a terminal window. Maybe I sound ridiculous. For what it is worth, I have a Dell XPS M1210. If I go into Utilities and choose System Profiler it seems to see all of my hardware with lots of details. I would think that this thing would boot based on that but no go. BTW, I am using the 2.44GB file from minnova that said AMD patched.

i was able to get the torrent with no problems. i am even seeding right now. i downloaded uTorrent first. then went to mininova. did a search on iATKOS. clicked on “v1.0i OSx86 Leopard 10.5.1 + EFI+ Boot Loader” and it popped up in uTorrent. it took a few days (gotta wait for those seeders), but i finally got the file. i will seed the file for a few days in the hopes that others can get it, too. however, since NO ONE has posted here that they’ve gotten this to work, i’m guessing there are some steps missing. if it were that simple (and it seems to be), someone would have replied and said they’d gotten it to work by now. however, i think you need to partition your hard drive first – a section for the leopard OS. also, the writer of this blog states you must have a core processor and AMD processors are not supported, yet all these idiots keep asking “will this work on my 5-year old dell?!?!”.
good luck to everyone. i have to admit, i’m too chicken to try this on my new dell with vista! i’d love to see someone have success with this though and write a more thorough how-to!

If you are downloading to a FAT/FAT32 location, it will give you that error, as it will not accept single files bigger than 4gig in size. Download to your NTFS partition/HD instead…

THE BOSS
Dear friends
wish u a very good morning
i am also one of those who tried to work out the problem and finally succeeded
what all i am writing here is my personal experience and it may not be universal.
let me tell u how to do it
I am a novice user not anyways related to computers but just some logical thoughts
The Problems
1. The installation never makes the boot volume active hence the OS never loads
2. There are two boot loaders (the term may be wrong) hence u have to select one
3. Package selection should be right as its critical
The solutions
please follow these steps
1. Insert the iATKOS disc and boot from it.
2. Press any key for booting from DVD and allow darwin to run.
3. Now u have a screen where there is only one button on the right hand bottom to CLICK and continue.
4. Click and get past the screen.
5. Now wait for sometime and look for the menu bar on the top of the screen.
6. go to UTILITIES > Disk utilities
7. Let it open and create partition (if needed) and format the disk in MAC extended (journaled) format
8. Now quit the utility and again go into UTILITY > DARWIN BOOT
(NOTE: if u r installing the OS on Hard disk 1 it will be shown as disc0
in the case there are partitions the first partition will be shown as s1
Hence disc 1 with 1st partition will be shown as disk0s1
disc 2 with 1st partition will be shown as disk1s1, and so on…)
when u start darwin boot it will ask u to continue
SAY yes by typing “Y” without quotes
it will ask the disk number so give the disk number (only numerals, 1,2,3….) as per ur customization
then it will ask for partition number and give it (only numerals, 1,2,3….)
This will make prepare the installation to find the correct boot volume
.IMPORTANT IMPORTANT ………………………………………………………….
Then it asks for EFI patch at this point just answer yes.
the next step asks for installing DARWIN just say no here
(NOTE these steps are for dual core intel processor)
JUST MAKE SURE this is the point of selection it may be (YES then NO), or NO then NO or NO then YES)
If u get this right u will possibly able to run the OS.
It will complete the process and will automatically logout
after it completes just close it and u will be taken back to the installer screen.
………………………………………………………………………….
There select next next and click customise button
Remove POWERMANAGEMENT and also remove THERMAL kexts (just check the corresponding boxes)
DONT select any graphic adapters for intel on-board graphics card
(Others I have not tried)
install normally and restart the computer after finishing the install.
dont hit any key or remove the DVD from the drive.
Just leave everything on its own and I hope u will see the WELCOME SCREEN
please do reply if u get it done
Thanks for ur try and thanks for keeping ur hopes alive
(If u want to reply just reply in this thread adressing me, i will try to solve ur problem, if I can)
regards
THE BOSS

hey guys im not sure about the intel users but to any amd users still reading which is highly unlikely but i figured out how to get it to load. you have to hold f10 right when the cursor in the top right corner starts to blink. i have absolutely no idea why this works and what it does but it seems to work for me. though for amd you must have the amd patched version not the one supplied on this site.

I attempted to do this and it went fairly well. When getting past the darwin boot, it showed a gray screen with an apple then shorty after a cross out on the apple; to get past this i just went through my BIOS and selected RAID to be automatic (i do not know why i had to do this because i only have 1 drive) after i got that figured out i was able to make a new partition and actually get it installing. once it got to about 65%(i’m estimating) the screen went gray and the computer restarted when the computer turned on, all i got was a blank screen with a gray/white cursor blinking, i could not type anything. i then went into BIOS and changed the RAId setting back to where it was, this didnt solve anything and then i couldnt even boot into Windows. (must have accidentally formatted good thing i backed up) i then retried doing the Leopard installation with the same result as before. my specs are:
Intel Core 2 Duo 6300 1.86Ghz, 3 GB DDR2 nVidia GeForce 8500GT
Windows XP home. Can anyone offer any help at all?

I just have a few questions:
1. Will this install on my Celeron D 347 3.06GHz 64-Bit PC?
(I know Apple computers use Core 2 Duo.)
2. What differences will I notice as a result of it being run on my PC as opposed to on a Mac?
3. Will my 3-button scroll mouse work similarly to how it works on Windows? I hate 1-button mousing.
4. How can I find the torrent? Do you have a link?
Thanks!

Ok I downloaded the ISO file. Then I burned it to DVD at 2x as suggested. Popped it in during boot up, it booted into the disk and asked me ”do you want to install Mac osx” or something like that. So I hit enter. Then it said “loading darwinx86” or something. I’m like cool its working! But no, two seconds latter my system reboots like maybe its supposed to idk. But then it just asks me the same question. “Do you want to install Mac osx” What ame I doing rong.

Hi, everyone…
Hey “THE BOSS” i read your post, very informative, i shall try that. Just wanna say i tried to install using vmware with many different hardware configs, no luck so now on to trying it on my laptop. i hope all goes well, must backup.
Will post how it goes.
If it doesn’t work, then i will give apple a pat on the back for creating this hardware monopoly for there operating system and go ahead and buy a Macbook Pro, in which i can use windows too….
P.S. if you don’t even know how to burn the ISO image to a blank DVD then i really don’t think you should be trying to install Leopard on your PCs. ( to all those that can’t even use a PC properly)

To JUSTIN HULBERT
You are experiencing a kernel stack error in which your processor gets reset. Unfortunately i don’t know how to fix this problem, but i maybe you can google “kernel stack error” or something to the like to help you figure this clumsy OS out.

I just burnt the disk and its brand new not a scratch in sight has anyone else had this error or know what to do about this. It might be a hardware error as my HD has been playing up so im of to test it on my PC now and see how that goes.
Thanks in advance for any reply’s

I know that the apple screen can hang if you don’t have HPET enabled in your bios. If you do a diagnostic install you can enter -v -f to get all of the error messages and see where its hanging.

If you’re having boot problems try starting up with the shift key pressed this will take longer to boot but will boot into Safe Mode. Once booted go to disk utility and click on the hard-drive to select it and then click repair permissions and then re-start. I’m not saying this will work but it may be worth trying if you’re having problems. Live long and prosper, Ste.

Ok, I’ve read some of the comments on here and I have to laugh. Some folks should NOT be even using computers if they do not understand some basic concepts.
1. The iso is in a zip file. You need to unzip it first (XP, Vista or Linux can unzip)
2. You burn this to a single layer DVD using your favorite burn tools. Alcohol 120% is one I like and it has functions such as Demon Tools to mount (huh huh I said mount) a virtual drive.
3. The reason the size of the iso is 2 gb and not 6 gb is that much of the stuff that is on the Apple dual layer DVD has been removed to fit in a single layer DVD.
4. If you do not have one of the supported processors (SSE,) it is NOT going to work on your Pentium M, nor your Pentium 4 HT.
5. You can indeed boot from a USB hard drive as long as your pc supports booting from USB. Also you need to set the MBR as well as the boot record on the drive.
6. If you have files on a NTFS format drive (XP, Vista) or on a ext2 (Linux) you WILL lose data unless you back your stuff up.
If you have any problems with any of these steps (like what is a mbr, or what is NTFS,) maybe you should NOT be doing this. Get your mommy or daddy to buy you a macbook air with leopard already installed.
Jeez.

Download the iAtkos iso from mininova and burn it, right click on the image and select your burning software.
make sure your pc is set to boot from CD Rom first, load the dvd press any key to boot from dvd,you gonna get a grey screen with apple logo,it take 1or2 min to load .you should get blue screen with grey toolbar on the top, select utilities from the drop down window select disk utilities ,choose a HDD and formated ot to MAC extended (journaled) after formating you should see your HDD click on it and click continue and install.
ps it’s a long process though i install on an AMD PC with no problem

a work around for the keyboard problem is to either make sure that apple recognizes where you want to type. It usually beeps if it does not know where to type. If that doesnt work…Hold the power button or press alt+Q on a PC to shut down. If the alt+Q works, pretty sure the keyboard drivers are installed fine. Also, if you have a USA Extended keyboard make sure you select that.
So turn off the computer and let it start again… they keyboard should work then.
if you are using a USB device. Make sure you plug it in before you restart. Since (atleast for me) the USB doesnt work if plugged in after on.
Also, someone asked about the iTKOS v1.0i… the 2.09 and the 2.44GB files, I believe are pretty much the same. But since the 2.09GB one works for me. So make sure you get the one that works.
Another thing, After installation, and your computer boots leopard, update software …. but make sure you do not update the leopard OS or any drivers that you arent sure of. Beacause (atleast for me) after installation it tells me to restart and then during the apple boot screen it will go Dim and tell me to press the power button and to restart. So if anyone finds out a work around for that let me know.
I tried installing the intel wireless drivers, i believe its the a/b/g drivers for 3… That crashed my computer. Update for OS Leopard crashed it. everything else works fine.. so far.
One last thing, once you finished installed and you really dont want the hassle of installing the OS once again if it crashes, make sure that you make an image of the disk, using disk utility.
Now a lot of people dont explain this properly…ill try.
After installation and making sure the OS X works. Shut down your computer or install things you want to install… like office 08, ilife 08, toast, msn messenger, firefox, quicktime update… blah blah… (make sure you dont update any drivers or experiment installing the OS X leopard update at this time) and then shut down. Put your Leopard DVD in the drive and boot off it and go to the installation of the OS like you did before.
Once it reaches the screen where it asks you to select the harddrive you want to install the deal. click on utilities and go to disk utility. Then click on the harddrive you want to image (the HDD where you installed the leopard). make sure you click on the HDD model and not the HDD name that you gave it. For example i named my primary HDD leopard… but for imaging it, i do not click on leopard, instead right above leopard the HDD model number (Fujitsu….) is listed… so click on that. Then click on the Image button on the top… select the secondary HDD that want to create the image and then leave all the settings as is… and then hit start… While its working… (dont freak when you see that your primary HDD that you are imaging is unmounted) make sure that your secondary HDD size is decreasing. Once its completed. Shutdown the computer by pressing alt + Q and then start your computer as is….
Phew hope that helped… after installing the OS more than 10 times.. i believe this would save everyone the trouble of having to wait to install all the settings and crap like that.

I have tried using the iatkos 1.0i image.uphuck 10.4.10, On my dell vostro 1500. Doesnt seem to matter what i do cant get past the kernel stack fault with either images. It installs fine no problem. While Vista Installed i used Acronis OS Selector To boot into mac. ANY HELP OR INSIGHT INTO HOW TO MAKE IT WORK WOULD BE GREAT THANKS.

Problem: iATKOS_v1.0ir2.iso [2.6Gb] that I’ve got and burned onto SONY DVD-RW Ver.1.1/2X 4.7Gb only contained 9 or so [I've already formatted it] files when viewed from Windows Explorer or Total Commander. However, when the .iso was extracted [not burned] using MagicISO, it showed 25 files, altogether equal to 2480Mb when ready to burn. The files include .fseventsd, .Trashes, .vol, Applications, bin, Install Mac OS X.app and more and two HFS+ private directories. What would be your recommendation on all of this: should it stay or should it go?
Second problem, a bit simpler: the Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2].iso that I’ve got weights 4.698MB and simply doesn’t want to boot/work at all. Same equipment was used to burn the image – Nero 8. Same goes: what would be your recommendation on this one?
PS. My laptop [Inspiron E1505 Intel Centrino Core Duo] has MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, 1024MB DDR2 and is fully capable of running Leopard [at least that's what I believe].

hey man i tried again to install and did exactly the things tht u told but its not booting in to the os…i went to disk utility and then formated my hdd as mac journal extended and then also made a single partition on the entire drive…see the first prob i got was when i selected darwin from the utilities and then pressed Y for the efi ( it gave me an error saying tht could not unmount error 2 ) and then it automatically said process completed and logged out so then i close the terminal window and then click on continue and then it gives me option to customise so i check the remove processor thermal and the other one as u said …i also choose nvidia drivers for my card and also then i click on tht efi and then click on continue and it starts installing ..the good news was tht it installed in the first go and it just took 10 min to complete the installation…now after the system is restarted it again gave me the same darwin bootloader and as u said i did not press any key and waited for it to boot …well it gives me a white screen with apple logo and immediately io get a lot of error codes regardign processor and a debugger called panic.but then wht happens is tht the whilte screen slows keeps on turning black and finally the full screen is black…i then restart the system and then press F8 and then type in -x -v -f rd=disk0s1 and it starts a lot of computing and gives all sort of coding with regards to hardware …in the end it reaches to a part where it says loading welcome application and then after tht does nothing…..
now the above one i did with the hdd partitioned as master boot record.
next i tried with changin the hdd partition to GUID as its mentioned for mac on intel based..i installled the leopard again and the same thing after the installation…it does not boot into os when i dont press any key the same white screen turning black..and if i press F8 and type -x -v -f rd=disk0s1 now it again starts with the computing but now it reaches a line which says darwin loader ver 9.0 initialising and then it gets stuck there..
any ideas as to wht to do and how to make it work ..
i really want this to work as apple systems are very costly where i live..
thanks really appreciate for the help u providing ppl

Update: the 4.698Gb version works [it installs fine] up until the grey Apple screen w/ the logo appears; after approximately 5 seconds, it turns black and either does nothing [stays black indefinitely], gives me root access [#root:...], or hangs on “APH is supported” line, right after a problem w/ wireless card/driver. I tried switching the wireless and Blietooth off in BIOS, but that didn’t help. Any recommendation?

Ok, after doing some more research I ask that you please disregard my previous post. I have gotten past all of the “loading pages” (ie. Apple Logo with scrolling circle). I am able to get to the very beginning of the actual install process. My problem now is that when it asks me: “Select a Destination-Where do you want to install Mac OS X Leopard?” Nothing appears for me to select. After researching this problem I now know that I must first format one of my HD partitions from NTFS or FAT32 to HFS (also Mac Extended (journaled) I believe). I am not quite sure how to do this but I tried my best using the software on the DVD. My only problem now is that I am unable to use my keyboard to input a new partition name or something like that. So now that I am thoroughly confused, here are two (2) questions that I have:
First-How do I exactly format one of my HD’s to the proper Mac format? (the steps would be nice)
Second-Is there some button that I need to hold down in order to get my keyboard to function again (I will list my computers specifications at the end)?
The only reason that I am really doing this is due to the fact that HP sent me a corrupted file of Vista and seems unable/unwilling to fix it. Apparently I am running a non-genuine version of Vista straight from HP *shakes fist*

hudreckb,
I believe you might have an issue, since you have an AMD processor. You might need to get the AMD compatible leopard.
Anyways, Ill tell you how to erase your drive.
1) Enter Disk Utility
2) Select the drive you want to install or format. You will have to click on the Drive name and not the model number and make.
3) Click on erase
4) Select the MAC OS Extended (jounaled) partition.
5) Click erase.
6) After a few seconds your drive is ready for installation

MUGZ,
First i do have the AMD version of the Leopard image. But do i repartition the drive via the DVD i created or through Windows commands, and what if i do not see my 2 HD’s under disk utilities?
Thanks for your response also!
Feb 17th, 2008
mugz
hudreckb,
You do not need to format using windows commands. Boot through the DVD. Get to the setup for leopard. Once you accept the terms and conditions, it should bring you to a screen where it shows your hard drives. Now, on the top menu bar you will see utilities. Click and enter disk utilities.
Now, I am not sure how many hard drives you have, or if you want to partition a single drive. Based on that I can tell you what to do next.
But if you want to install leopard on a single hardrive with no partitions, after you come to this step, follow the instructions before.
You do not need to pre format your drives before you boot in to leopard. When I installed it, I had Vista running on my laptop. So both my hardrives (Not Partitions, 2 physical drives) were in NTFS state.
Hope this helps.

hudreckb,
hmm … you said you have a laptop right? Can you see if the Alt+Q button works? See if any of the keys work. If they are beeping they are working. Just not registering where to type. If they are not beeping, try plugging in a USB keyboard or a PS/2 keyboard if you have a port. Usually, drivers for such basic devices should load without a problem.
If not, you might want to download another version of the leopard-AMD. The same thing happened with me, The DVD I downloaded the first time, did not install properly. I had to try 3 before I got it right. So if nothing works, it might be that the drivers on the DVD have not been copied right or corrupted.
As far as I know keyboard drivers should be installed automatically, since there is no way you can put a driver in to the DVD. Usually most BIOS support USB keyboards.
Try these options and see if they work. Another site where you could get the version of leopard would be phazeddl.c om, that is if you are using rapidshare as your download source
Let me know.
Thanks for the time!

Have you guys tried to run multi os together with leopard? Any configuration to be done before apart from the partitioning? Was just asking cos I installed xp to run in a vista pc for a friend and I had to install SATA drivers etc. and it was a hell of a procedure.

Ok this message is for everyone who has problems with installing loepard on a partition. When you start the installation process you can see a menu at the top. In this menu you see a few options but you have to go to utilities. And when you are in the utilities menu you see a few options. If you did everything right so far you should see the option disk utility. In this menu that should pop up you can either make an partition or delete partitions. Then after you did this you should close the programme and open the folder utilities->Darwin_Boot.. follow the onscreen instructions and then if you did everything right you go back to the menu and you select agree and you follow the rest of the installation. Ok now I have a question: I made a partition, installed leopard succesfully on it and then when It asks me to reboot the comuter I just reboot. But then when I boot the computer the installation starts over again!! Does anyone know how to fix this??? timhendriks_9@hotmail.com

There could be two things wrong with your partion:
A. You need make sure that your partion is selected to boot.
You can do this by making a gpart live cd. Then boot that up and choose auto config. After that loads choose your partion right click on it and choose flags and select boot. Restart with eject cd and pop the ISO that you used back in. It should automatically load to leopard for you to start but if it restarts or stays at the cursor screen then type -x -v – f rd=disk0s1 (if it is that partion, but if not you could always go back into install and go to disk utility, click info to find partion name). It should now work but if your pc still restarts try tapping enter after the text that says loading and only when the text becomes a smaller size. You should be able to get it to work now.
B. You installed bootloader with efi. If A did not work then erase partion and install without choose no patches and see if that works

Im not sure but im thinking it may have something to do with BIOS.
My hardware matches a MAC book. When i inserted the APPLE leopard dvd i bought ( Factory version from apple) All my drivers for my hardware are acually on the DVD. Since apple supplies this software for an Intel 945 chipset im guessing that leopard should work with the right patch. The only thing i can possibly see is the BIOS Stopping the Iatkos from loading. Im affraid that if i disrup Bios on my computer it won’t allow me to restore my HP Pavilian back to factory settings, because it uses the information from BIOS. Im only 15 doing this for a school project so can someone tell me if im on the right track?

Don’t update to 10.5.2 this hack was made for 10.5.1 not 10.5.1 duh!!!!
I have leopard working on my dell e1405 with 1.76 duo core processor but with no wifi and no audio, but I have my ethernet port working as i am writing this from leopard. Also I have windows vista installed on here. I use a GPart live cd where I switch between which partion i am to load from.
I installed leopard with iAtokas after i upgraded it with the version 2. You can get it here: http://etsi.pl/iatkos_r2.html
I don’t know why so many people are having problems. Even though i have to bootload from the cd everytime because if I don’t I get a hfs+ partition error, i get by it with -x -v -f rd=disk0s1 and when it starts running after loading I tap enter until I am able to move the cursor. That usually gets it to work.

The reason you can’t get those to work is because you don’t have compatible hardware that will work with the leopard system.
Next the reason that you have to keep booting innsafe mode might be the fact that you have to forceboot because according to leopard it isn’t supposed to be on a pc.

Well anyways, about your audio problem, I think that the best way for you to try and get the sound to work is to go to the sigmatel drivers page and see if you can find the drivers there that might be compatible to work on leopard. There pretty much isnt any other solution right now.

Re: Infectido
Here is the guide i used to get everything working. As far as the wifi goes it was atomatically installed by Iatkos Disk. THIS IS NOT MY GUIDE DONT ASK ME QUESTIONS ABOUT IT. This also covers DUAL BOOTING ON DELL VOSTRO 1500. I cant guratnee it will work for all systems this jsut worked for my dell vostro 1500.
Okay! Since this community was so helpful in getting my Vostro 1500 turned into a Hackbook Pro, and it required flipping through several different threads, i thought I would compile everything I had to look up into one Mega Vostro thread. This information took me from a stock Vostro 1500 with Windows XP Home, to a Dual Booting, 10.5.2 Leopard w/ Vanilla 9.2.0 Kernel, and XP Pro X64. I will also do my best to provide links to 64 bit XP drivers for this unit, as that was honestly the most time consuming, and headache causing part of this whole ordeal. I will also let you know that I have not found a working 56k Modem driver for Windows XP x64, so if this is a deal breaker, you can just stop reading here!
First I’m going to start with the basics, this guide is written for a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop speced as follows:
Model – Vostro 1500
CPU – Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5270 (1.4GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
Operating System – Genuine Windows XP Home Edition (Changing out to OS X 10.5.1 & Windows XP Professional)
LCD Panel – 15.4″ inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Display
Memory – 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
Video Card – 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS
Hard Drive – 160GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
Integrated NIC and Modem – Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
Optical Drive – 8X CD/DVD+RW Read and Burn CD and DVD
Sound Card – High Definition Audio 2.0
Wireless Cards – Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card
Primary Battery – 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Bluetooth – Wireless Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate)
At the end of this guide, if you have this configuration, you should have a working Vostro 1500 that Dual Boots Leopard and XP x64 where 98% of OSx86 is working. I will tell you right now the following I have not bothered to start messing with ATM, and are not currently working.
Speedstep – I work primarily plugged in, and I have it disabled in the BIOS because I want to be at 1.4 Ghz at all times, so I don’t really care if this works or not.
Battery Meter – There is a wonderful guide for this in MacGirl’s Dell thread (found here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=83039) that I’m sure if I took the time, it would work, but I haven’t so it doesn’t.
Sleep – Were you really expecting it to anyways?
Reboot/Power Down – Reboot was working at initial install, but since I patched the audio it hasn’t been. The system blacks out, but never totally shuts off, I just do that manually. If anyone has a fix for this, I would really appriciate it as it’s the only thing about my install that kind of bugs me.
What is working:
Dual Core CPU
1280×800 Resolution w/ full switching and QE/CI support, Dual Monitor shows up but is untested
Properly Detects RAM speed and Processor Type
Integrated 10/100 LAN
DVD Read tested and working fine, have yet to test writing
Audio working on internal speakers and headphone jack, have not tested mic in
Wireless out of the box, detected as Airport
Bluetooth
This should give you everything you need for everyday use, the system also stays very cool, never getting warmer then it does normally in windows, I dont’ have an exact temp for you sorry.
Alright, now that we know what to expect once you’ve finished up, lets get start on the making it work part. You will need to following:
1 x copy iATKOSir2 Burned to DVD (iATKOSi will probably work as well, I just had iATKOSir2 burned already)
1 x copy GParted Live CD
1 x copy Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (I recommend a volume license, easier that way.)
1 x Vostro 1500 as configured above
1 x kalyway_hack_10.5.2ComboUpdate
1 x kalyway_10.5.2_kernels.mpkg.zip
Patience
Time
A basic working knowledge of your computer
First! Power up your Vostro and make sure it is set to boot to DVD first, then HDD. Once this is done, insert your iATKOSir2 DVD and reboot.
Let iATKOSir2 load, and then open Disc Utility. Select a 2 Partition Configuration, and size them accordingly for what you want each OS to have. I have mine split evenly, with 80 GB dedicated to each OS.
Format partition 1 as HFS+ Journaled, and leave partition 2 as Free Space.
Once this is done, close Disc Utility, and continue your install to the HFS+ Journaled partition, mine is called Leopard. When you get to the screen with the Customize option, click it and select the following options ONLY!
EFI Bootloader and all sub options
Broadcom 440x Network Driver
Then click continue, and skip the DVD check, and prepare to wait, it takes a bit for the OS to install.
Once this is done, the system should say Successfully Installed! and show you the Green Checkmark of success +1! Restart your laptop, and insert your GParted Live CD. Press enter through the options until you get to the disc utility.
Next you are going to want to select your HFS+ Journaled partition and enable the Boot flag to make that drive bootable. Once this is done, you can close the disc utility, and reboot your system. Remove the GParted Live CD and you should be prompted with the darwin boot loader.
At this point, press enter, and boot with the -v flag just to be safe, the system shouldn’t hang up, but just in case, I always boot with -v on the first run through. Once the system runs through its boot, you should be booted with a choppy version of the Leopard Intro Video. Don’t Panic! We’re going to make the graphics work very shortly.
Run through the account creation process, and press Clover+Q to skip the registration page, (it should be Alt+Q on your keyboard) and boot to your new Leopard Desktop for the first time.
Once at the desktop, we have a couple of things to take care of, namely Video, Audio and Updating to 10.5.2 w/ vanilla kernel 9.2.0 + Leopard Graphics Update.
First we’re going to start with graphics, I tried several different installers to make my 8400M GS 128 work, and in the end the only one that actually worked for me was this one: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=83931
You want to click GET IT HERE in the first post, then go to the DOWNLOAD PAGE and getNVInstaller v.33.
Once this file is downloaded, you want to run the .pkg files and install for your card accordingly, which should be the following options:
Final 10.5.2 kexts
128mb card
then click continue and let the installer do its thing. Reboot, and you should now have fully working graphics with Resolution switching, and full QE/CI. To be safe, once again when you reboot, I would recommend booting with -v to debug any issues that might incur.
Next step, working audio! This one took me a few trys, but thankfully, the wiki for 10.5.1 on this unit will work perfectly, I’m going to link it here, and then explain it. Here is the wiki link: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph…les#Vostro_1500
For those too lazy to click through, here is basically what you want to do.
- Get the AppleHDA Patcher v1.20 from here – http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859
- Get the Stac9205.txt Linux Codec dump from here – http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho…mp;#entry581566
- Get the AppleHDA.kext.zip file from here – http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho…mp;#entry586908
Put these files on your desktop. Once this is done, you want to drag the Stac9205.txt file into AppleHDA Patcher v1.20. You will see some text in the box, and then it will say Done or Complete or something along those lines. Now, before you reboot, take the AppleHDA.kext file you downloaded fromt he last link, and put it in System/Library/Extensions. It will ask you to authenticate with your user password, and overwrite the file, this is fine, do so.
Then go to Applications/Utilities/Disc Utility, select your Leopard install drive, and repair permissions, then reboot. Again I recommend using the -v flag to check for errors, but you shouldn’t encounter any.
Once OS X boots again you should not have fully working audio, at least to the extent I have tested it.
This is all I really had to do to get the machine to the point I’m happy with it driver wise. Next, we’re going to move on to the 10.5.2 update, which is a relatively simple process.
For this process, I used the following link: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&…st&p=620755
For those of you too lazy to click through again, I’m going to quote that post, and give my thanks to Kalyway for this update, as well as Foodie Monster for the process that worked for me, so thanks guys!
QUOTE
Excuse me if I quote one of my favorite games of ‘07 here: “This was a triumph. I’m making a note here, HUGE SUCCESS!”
I am now running Mac OS X 10.5.2, with Vanilla Kernel 9.2 (Yup the updated one!), GUID, EFI and all that stuff! Just wanted to report to all of you that on my system (check specs in my Signature) I just did the following:
1) Procure the necessary files: Search at “The Bay” (You know, where everybody says “Yarr!”, drink Grog and eat oranges to fight scurvy) for the files: you are looking for Kalyway’s ComboUpdate for 10.5.2 as well as the other file, the Updated Kernel (I can’t link here, but do a search for “kalyway” for the first file, and a search for “kernel” for the second file – make sure you sort by date so you can find it easily smile.gif )
2) Once you have the files, BACKUP ANY IMPORTANT DATA – Everything in Hackintosh is YMMV, so if you are playing the game, might as well know the rules. Only once you’ve done this, you can proceed to installing the Combo Update (KalywayUpdCombo10.5.2.pkg) – Yes there are other files in your download, don’t worry about them.
3) Once that’s done and it asks you to restart, leave the window open and open up Disk Utility. Why? Because repairing permissions is never a bad idea. I don’t know if it’s necessary, but I did it and my system is working perfectly with no hitches.
4) Restart your system by clicking the Button. Once you do this, you’ll see the Apple Screen, and after a long while, the system will reboot. THIS IS NORMAL! Don’t panic! Once it reboots, it’ll stay in the Apple Screen again, and then everything will go black. Very black. The system will stay that way for several minutes (some people say up to 3-4 minutes, it was about 2-3 for me), but after that period in which no doubt you’ve been holding your breath, you’ll see the Blue desktop signaling that it lives! And after a few moments, your wallpaper will pop up and congrats, you are now in 10.5.2! biggrin.gif
Now, if you don’t want the new Kernel, you are done here. Go make yourself a sandwich. If you do want to install the new Kernel though, do the following:
5) After doing all of above, crack open the new “kalyway_10.5.2_kernels.mpkg.zip” file. Inside there’ll be a file called “kalyway_10.5.2_kernels.mpkg”. Run this, and you’ll have 2 options. Select the appropriate for your system – there’s a description when you select either that’ll help you chose. In my case, I chose the first one for Vanilla Kernel.
6) Reboot when prompted. It’ll boot back into your desktop, no fuzz, and you’ll have the 9.2.0 Darwin kernel. Congratulations! YOU NEW KING OF FIGHTERS!
So there you have it. Mind you, I have not installed the Graphics Update yet, not until I hear some confirmation that it won’t screw up my Install. But if you are not hard pressed for that Graphics Update, those are the steps I followed to get my system to be up-to-date to the latest version of OS X, with the latest Kernel.
Hope that helps any of you! Cheers and good luck!
Once you finished with that process, that’s pretty much it! You can now proceed to do the Leopard Graphics Update and not worry about anything, it works perfectly fine on this build. You should now have a fully updated Leopard install with 10.5.2 compliments of iATKOS and Kalyway (thanks again guys!) with a full 9.2.0 Vanilla Kernel.
Now, if you have no interest in Dual Booting your machine, scurry off and start installing whatever OS X apps you want (I recommend Onyx, Geekbench, XSlimmer, Adium and Parallels Desktop {for when you’re too lazy to reboot to hit windows if you are dual booting})
If, however, you are interested in dual booting, it’s time to move on to Installing Windows XP Professional X64.
Dual Booting!
For this section, you will be using that XP Pro x64 disc I was talking about. To start, reboot your computer with the XP Pro x64 disc in drive, and begin the setup process.
Once you get to the partition options, it will tell you that another partition on this machine has been marked as bootable, and that windows will need to change this in order for the computer work properly, and that you can change this option from within windows at any time. Don’t worry about it, and let it change the boot flag on this partition.
You should now be looking at 2 partitions, mine listed as this
C: Unknown Partition
E: Unpartitioned Space
You want to select E: and partition create a New Partition on it, and then reboot your system.
The reason for this is that windows automatically assigns any valid partition C:, even if it can’t use it. If you try and install to E: it’s going to give you a headache in the long run, so just partition and reboot.
Once back to this screen, proceed to install XP Pro x64 to your new C: Partition, which should now show up as:
C: New Partition
I just formatted it to NTFS (quick) and let the installer do it’s thing.
Once this is all done, you should be looking at your XP x64 Desktop.
I’m also going to highlight this simply for the irony of it. It is easier to get OSx86 to work on this laptop, then to get an x64 build of windows to function properly, the drivers are buried in Dell’s website, or often the manufacturers directly, and it took me about 4 or 5 hours to get everything working.
As I’m sure most of you are familiar with windows, I’m not going to go into a long detailed process on how to install drivers unless they are particularly hard, what I will do is provide links to the proper drivers, so you don’t have the wild goose chase I did getting this thing to work. So here we go
Start with this driver, as it’s the Intel Chipset – http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/…p;fileid=205326
To get the nVidia GeForce 8400M GS 128 to work you will need to get the latest drivers from this link – http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp64_169.21_whql.html and get the modified INF file from this link – http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index….showtopic=16155
Run the nvidia installer until it tells you that there has been no compatible video device on this computer. Then go to C:\NVIDIA\Win2KAMD64\169.21\English and put the modified .INF file in this directory. Once that’s done run Setup.exe again, and it should install your graphics driver properly.
For the Broadcom Network card you want this driver – http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/4401.php
For the Dell 1490 Wifi Card you want this driver – http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/…p;fileid=236819
For the Dell 355 Bluetooth you want this driver – http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/…p;fileid=216131
For Audio you want this driver – http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/int…-hd-driver.html
For the 3 Base System Devices you want this driver – http://members.driverguide.com/driver/deta…mp;action=filfo (This is all three aspects of the card reader, one for each, you’ll have to try each one separately as I don’t remember the proper order)
I believe thats it really. I don’t recall there being any other issues with this unit. I will of course tell you you need to go and grab XP SP2 for x64 Professional, which is about 350 MB, happy downloading and that you should run a full course of windows updates afterwards.
Once this is all said and done, and your windows install is configured the way you like it, the dual boot step is super easy, at least it was for me. All you do is reboot, and put the GParted Live CD back in your computer, and re-mark the HFS+ Journaled partition as bootable, and when the darwin boot loader comes up, you hit enter, it should now give you the following options
(hd0,1)Leopard
(hd0,2)Windows
Which is pretty self explanatory, pick Leopard for OS X and Windows for your windows install.
So, yep, that should take care of it honestly! If I missed any XP x64 Drivers, please let me know and I’ll dig up which ones I missed and try and get them posted here for you, as I know its a pain in the ass to try and find them all scattered all over the intarwebs.
Again I would like to thank the following members of the community that got this up and running with their subsequent guides and files and other contributions to this project:

Just brainstorming. I want to be able to set up a dual boot, but not loose any files on my existing XP Setup.
I’m about to look around with Partition Magic, and see what I can do. It looks like bigfdaddy’s tutorial deals with a clean install…
So can anyone help?

Apple sees my wifi card as broadcom 4xxx when i boot up with -v rd=disk0s1.
Tried installing the 10.5.2 update like it stated in my previouse post. It worked for me but i lost my audio and wifi. So reinstalled 10.5.1 and know when i repair permissions i get Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent” has been modified and will not be repaired. How do i repair or fix this problem. I have never seen this till know. Also i have lost the speaker icon up top but still get sound. Cant figure out how that happened.

Re:Dylan
If u dont whant to lose any xp stuff then i would get something like acronis disk director. it allows you to split hard drive and other necesary things u need. Also It includes acronis os selector that might be usefull to u.

Keep the cd in and when it pops up to install. hit the f8 button then type -v then hit space bar then type rd=disk0s1 that should get u into

Hey Bigfdaddy
I have Acronis now, but everytime I create a partition, and finalize it, after i reboot its not there. I also tell it not to pick a file system, which could be why. Any idea what file system I should put it as?

I was looking around, and saw that the installer had a way to partition. Should I do it within there. I just got confused though because I already have 2 partitions (XP and Recovery), but I didn’t know whether to select “1 partition” or “3 partitions”..

Re: Dylan
Ok u have it split in two partions. dont worry about not seeing it. Pop in the mac dvd and use the disk utility program in it and format that blank partion as mac journaled. that should take care of it. then go ahead and install everything u need for youre pc. I beleive that should take care of it. If someone else knows any better way then please jump in.This is the way i am doing it since i jsut put vista on my laptop and am getting ready to install mac also. then install acronis os selector to use to dual boot.
Feb 23rd, 2008
Infectedco
If you could not get any of the os selectors to work you could always turn to using the gpart live cd.
Choose auto config then allow to load, follow directions.
Then when you see your partions right click the partion you want to boot and choose manage flags. Check the boot box then restart and you are all good

Well After Wiping Out My Dell Vostro 1500 Completley, I am able to dual boot. First I installed vista buisness. Then once that was done and fully updated i poped in iATKOS 1.01 R2. Let it boot up and hit install. Then once through i went into utilities then disk utilities. Formatted partion 1 as mad journeled (extended). Once that was done i picked out my patches. My drivers i used was bootlader efi with everything below that clicked. Then i installed broadcom Networking Patch. And i beleive that is all the patches i picked as far as i can remember. Once it installed and said had to restart i whent back to utilities then disk utilitie and repaired permisions. Once that was done i rebooted then when it asked press f8 i beleve to see start up options it showed mac leaopard and vista. KNOW I NO LONGER NEED MAC DVD TO BOOT INTO IT. I JUST SELECT MAC AND PRESS ENTER THEN IT BOOTS RIGHT INTO IT. SAME GOES FOR VISTA. HOPE THIS HELPS ANYONE WITH THE SAME LAPTOP OR CLOSE TO IT.

hey, i was wondering, when you download the ISO how do you put it onto the DVD+R, do you need a special program to burn it? Or do you just right click on it and press send to and then press cd drive? It says there is not cd, are you sure you have to use a DVD+R, not a CD+R?
PLEASE

OK so i burned the disk on my laptop so that i could use my other computer meanwhile and i left the disk in and when i turned it on it booted into BIOS and asked if i would like to install MAC OSX
the weird thing is when i sent my laptop in for repair they replaced my intel pentium 4 for a AMD Turion64
So would it be safe to try to install it?
Reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I burned my image with magic iso no problems. Yes it has to be dvd+r.
U should look for a amd approved disk. U might have just an intel disk so it might not work if that is the case.
When u boot type -v rd=disk0s1. That might help.

Re: Bigfdaddy
First of all, I would like to thank you for the support you have already provided me. I’m being really cautious on this right now just because I have some files I dont feel like backing up, and dont want to reinstall XP.
Basically, I already have 2 partitions. My main, and a recovery partition.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y151/partyboy12/acronis.jpg
Basically, do I just create a new one, select use free space of other partitions, set it as primary, No file system, Assign as a letter, finish, and then Commit?
Because I have done that, and it resulted in nothing.
Thanks again for the support you have provided already
Feb 24th, 2008

I tried it again. It seems like after I commit, I start back booting XP, it brings up the menu and “creates” the partition. Then it reboots, does some last stuff and loads XP up. After that it is never seen again and I am back to those 2

Don’t you think it’s a bit stupid to “burn at slow speeds” to disc? It’s been proven that discs burn BETTER at high speeds, as this is what the write strategy of the drive vs MID is designed for.

Re: Tinks
The way i have it to boot with out disk is having 2 partions. 1 st partion is mac 2nd is vista. Every time i boot up it says push f8 for advanced startup options then i just hit the mac and it runs. without disk being in.
Know when i didnt have the 2 partions and it was jsut mac i always had to use disk. It seems as tho even with the hard drive set to boot with jsut mac the boot loader doesnt recognize mac being their unless u have another operating system installed for it to scan or the dvd in that scans that hard drive and sees that mac is their.
IF U HAVE JUST MAC INSTALLED KEEP DVD IN AFTER INSTALLING AND WHEN IT BOOTS HIT F8 THEN TYPE
-V RD=DISK0S1.
That is how i got into mac with itself installed

Hey guys.. I have read the entire page of comments and everyone has been so incredibly helpful, I’m hoping someone can help me out.
Set up:
Dell D620 Laptop
1.66 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
1gb RAM
I can get my disk formatted into OS Extended (Journaled), run Darwin_boot just fine and then start installing. Between 1/2 and then end of the installation, it seems that the installation cuts out and reboots the system going back to the “Install” screen. I’ve attempted booting from HD after this assuming that perhaps the install finished and Automatically rebooted. All I get is a flashing cursor when booting from HD after the install.
After reading through some of the posts it looks like using the following commands may allow me to boot up, but I’m truly not sure. I’m just looking for confirmation.
Would either of these, either through the install DVD or from the cursor on boot allow me to boot up into leopard?
-x-v-f rd=disk0s1
or
-v rd=disk0s1
In addition, is there anything special I should be doing for the dual core processor? Should I be installing the PC-EFI? or not?
Anything else I might be missing?
Thanks for any and all help.

That’s it? Just keep moving the mouse while it installs? After it got about halfway again, it rebooted and then when I finally got it to start booting, it won’t get past the set up section: “Do you already own a Mac?”.
I’ll start over and try it with moving the mouse. Is there a certain amount of time I’m able to to wait between moving the mouse and not? Or does it need to be in constant motion?

Re: Landers
First try going into your bios and under performance disable multiprocessing. This should get leopard to run perfect with no errors what so ever.
If it still doesn’t work try erasing partion and reinstalling. You should only install the efi bootloader and in networking install broadcom. After that you should pretty much be set.
If still doesn’t work right you could always use the updated version. You have to run a program and your iso is updated. You can download here http://etsi.pl/iatkos_r2.html

Hi guys! for anyone trying to install this patch on an HP pavilian DV 1000- 9000 Intel core 2 duo processor, and had any problame loading the disk, then this may not work for you. I know i didn’t for me. But The Toh Patch on Mininova may work better. I was able to install leopard on my HP pavilian dv 6000se intel core 2 duo PC within an hour with no errors what so ever. The only problame is an incompatablity with the Conexant High deff. Audio and the wifi card (everyone knows about that). There is no sound but ev=erything works fine. I have an external wifi card thats mac compatable. my web cam and remote all work perfectly. its twice as large of a file to download so it does take longer.

Sry Forgot something. If you have a conexant high deff audio card it won’t work at all. If anyone figured out how to install it or get some sort of sound from this let me know!! ^_^

Re: INFECTEDCO
Once I disabled dualcore processing, it worked like a charm. boots up no problem.
Now to see if I can find the proper ethernet/wireless drivers…

Re: Landers
Sorry but I don’t think that you are going to get the intel card to work, because I haven’t heard of anyone who has one that works. I have a dell closely resembling yours, but I have the dell draft 1500 wireless mini and upon booting up the computer it instantly recognized it while saying it was airport. Well hopefully you find the drivers and good luck. As for me I am looking for a way to update leopard to 10.5.2 without losing all my programs that i already installed. If any one knows how do update please post.

re: INFECTEDCO
No worries. After researching around, looks like it works for 10.4, but not 10.5. Oh well. Going back to XP for now. It was damn cool to at least be able to boot leopard on a PC. Hopefully a 57xx patched driver or an intel patched driver will come out at some point.
Good luck with the update!

I noticed their are a few updates in the Apple Update. I have Leopard version 10.4.8
This locks me out from new software, such as iTunes. Is it safe to update? I think last time I tired, it crashed.. probably because it wasn’t patched
