Thanks to DownloadSquad I discovered that my Gmail account finally has IMAP Access in it. IMAP allows you to read and send mail just like POP does but albeit in a much better way. IMAP will allow you to read mails from a variety programs and the most important thing is that all the mails that you read say in your iPhone, the same mails will be marked as read when you check your inbox in Thunderbird.
GMail currently supports the following Mail Clients :
- Outlook Express (Windows)
- Outlook 2003 (Windows)
- Outlook 2007 (Windows)
- Apple Mail
- Windows Mail
- Thunderbird 2.0
- Other*
and the following Wireless Devices :
Activating IMAP is very simple. At present not all the Gmail Accounts have IMAP so keep checking your account settings for the next day or two and you should see it there. To configure your IMAP settings you need to navigate to POP/IMAP Settings under the Account settings menu. Reading the comments on Download Squad, a lot of people are getting IMAP onto their GMail accounts if they logout and then login again. Try doing this if IMAP is not present in your account.
Well My Gmail account has IMAP and I am installing Thunderbird as I write this now, So have you got IMAP in your Gmail, let us know through the comments.
