Speed Up Torrent Downloads in Windows Vista
I’ve noticed that BitTorrent downloads are not as fast on my friends PC as they were for me in XP. From what I could understand, this reduction in speed is due to difference in the AutoTuning function that Vista uses on the TCP/IP stack. But guess what the optimizer actually results in slower downloads. This affects BitTorrent and other programs that make use of threaded downloads.
If you are seeing slow downloads in BitTorrent too, you can disable the AutoTuning in Vista, this worked for my friend so i guess it should work for you too. To disable the Autotuning, follow these steps.
- 1. Click on the Start menu and type cmd in the search box. But DO NOT hit Enter after typing cmd. Instead, hold down the Control and Shift keys, and hit Enter while still holding them down. This opens the command prompt with elevated privileges.
- 2. In the command prompt, type
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disableand then hit enter. It should respond with a prompt that says Ok. - 3. Its Windows, so you know that you need to reboot.
Making this change should speed up your BitTorrent downloads, but if it messes up something else as a result, you can always revert the change by following the same steps but replacing the command in the command prompt with netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
Happy downloading! And Let Me Know if it works for you…
Set global command failed on IPv4 The requested operation requires elevation :S not working For Me . i got vista ultimate build 6001
eh it woks a little, goes up and down depending on if you have the window on screen. but all in all pretty good advice. 7/10
worked wonders for me, i was downloading at 50kbps, now going to at least, 3kbps idiots, its all crap nothing works.
I did what u said but it says the command requires elevation, even after holding down contol and shift.Any ideas??
Works ok... but still can't beat the tcp hack on XP. I think I'll continue to download torrents with my other machine that has XP on it... LOL :P
its shows no use .i have tried in in my vista but sppped as almost as before but sometimes for a while it gives 20-26kb/s not more than that .my usual speed is very very slow near about 1-3kb/s. i neeed your help to cop with this problem.
have you tested if we turn it to high karthik, does it makes any difference or setting it to disable is the optimum solution, let me know!

Thanks a lot dude, this is great, works for me,
;;emaxple,,, downloading at 5 kbps b4 the update and at 80kbps after update...
thanks
it works to stop the network from randomly disconnecting while using torrents but does not speed them up ( speed has to do with yer connection speed and the amount of seeders that the torrent has..

nothing work scam?
