Google Crushed By Storm : The Virus Cannot Be Stopped

Believe it or not over a 1000 blogs on Google’s Blogger have been infected by a worm called Storm. What they are perpetrators of the Storm Worm are trying to do is to trick users into clicking poisonous links with some titillating messages.

The links are shown to link to a Video hosted on Youtube while it actually takes you to an infected computer that makes a part of the botnet. Over 500 blogs on the blogspot domain are infected with this infection.. The Messages that link to the infected sites read something like this :

“Dude what if your wife finds this” and “Sheesh man what are you thinkin”. There can be many more but right now there is nothing that we know. According to one search on Google Search, about 424 Blogger sites have been infected. The actual number is probably higher because the search contained only a small fraction of the teasers used by Storm.

I can’t seem to find anything on how this virus penetrated Google’s security systems and the company has not commented anything on this matter just yet. I hope they disinfect these sites as soon as possible. Blogger is something huge and if an infection starts spreading there, the situation can get really worse than what it really is now.

The Virus/Worm first surfaced in January this year, and new computers got it after a lot of users clicked on links included in some spam mails. If you get infected, you will be part of a botnet and your PC will spam others all day long, without you even ever knowing about it. The spam-mails contained news about storms in Europe, greeting cards, login credentials and teasers about YouTube videos, all trying to trick users into clicking on links. The most important thing is that, it really worked – about 2 millions hosts have been infected, and the virus hasn’t been stopped yet.
